It looks like whatever change was made to the RoyalRoad plugin in 4.54.0 has broken all downloads from that website. It now shows an error along the lines of "Nonetype has no attribute 'startswith'".
Broken in both 4.54.0 and latest test version, working in 4.53.0 after downgrading. Edit: Using Calibre plugin, Windows 10 |

I get the NoneType startswith issue on all RoyalRoad stories I had. Example: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/12...petent-history
Found two issues Line 280 - logger.debug("stars:(%s)"%self.story.getMetadata(' stars')) and then line 292 - if self.setCoverImage(url,cover_url.replace('/covers-full/', '/covers-large/'))[0].startswith("failedtoload"): Not sure why either of them would be None, but I added extra None checks to the second (and commented out the first), and it worked. Updated to latest test version and it seems like things are working again. I suspect it was Line 292 in the royalroad plugin as mentioned by fanfictioneer, which I've seen you've already fixed.
Edit: Since I noticed that royalroad was always downloading the low res version of the cover in the past, I had set FFF to globally never make covers for royalroad fics and instead I would manually download the high res cover for each new fic. This setting is probably why I encountered the issue and not you. Last edited by watani; 02-02-2026 at 08:01 PM. Reason: Providing possible reason for seeing issue |

Not really a big deal, but I've noticed that updating books to the new image URL format completely messes up the kindle reading progress markers. Any idea why that might be? Mostly just curious, because it seems strange.

Dunno.
![]() Converting from epub to azw3 in Calibre renames all the images to images/00001.jpeg, etc. And the order is neither the order they appear in the epub, nor the alphabetical order of the epub image file names. I would speculate that it is different than before and maybe kindle is remembering a calculated hash for each file inside the azw3? I'm really just guessing. |

I have found that when my kindle forgets where it is in the book if you page forward only one time, then page back it snaps to where it should be. No idea why but it has worked for me like that for years.

I tend to get error messages when trying to grab AO3 fics (via the calibre plugin):

use_archiveofourown_gay is what works most consistently for me. Code:
## When set true, this setting causes the AO3 code in FFF to replace ## archiveofourown.org with archiveofourown.gay before every network ## request. This does *not* change the story or chapter URLs saved by ## FFF, they will still be archiveofourown.org. use_archiveofourown_gay:true |

Hello from Germany,
first of all I want to thank the developer of this excellent plugin. It made my life much easier ;-) I want to report an error while updating a book with new chapters from AO3: If I update a story via GUI->Add new Chapters only, then I get an error like: >0 good, 1 bad< and in the protocol it is listed as error with the comment 'ttf'. If I select 'always overwrite', it works as expected. This problem only occurs in plugin version 4.54 onwards, the previous version works just fine. My calibre version is 9.1.0 on Windows 11 build 7705. Thank you for your help in advance. Marc |

Hello
When updating multiple fics from sufficient velocity, all failed with the following error: Background Job Failed, see Calibre Jobs log. After checking each fic one by one, only one fic remained with the error. The URL is https://forums.sufficientvelocity.co...-quest.136754/ and attached is a copy of the debug log. Thank you for the very useful plugin |
