Problem Ejecting Device (KOBO)

Ran into a weird scenario this past weekend.

I installed KOBO Utilities as a plugin for Calibre. I added my books. But when I went to device and selected eject, my KOBO wouldn't eject. So I uninstalled KOBO Utilities, restarted Calibre, and this time I was able to eject the device without any issues.

I added KOBO Utilities because I wanted to figure out why sometimes when I eject, my new books are added and sometimes by random they're not. When I did run a database check for my KOBO, it did say my database was corrupt.

Now, everything seems to be working fine. The only issue that I have is if I ever update metadata with Calibre, it zeros out my reading statistics for whatever I happen to be reading. I don't lose my place in the book where I am at. I only lose the stats.

Should I do anything given that the KOBO Utilities app said my database is corrupt? Should I have logged off and logged back in again? I do have about about 200 books on my KOBO right now, and most of those are side loaded.

I ask after having read this: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=361380

Let me know what next steps I should take given the above. And let me know if this eject issue is a bug with the KOBO Utilities or if there is somewhere else I need to eject the device other than the device icon.

I have a Clara BW with Firmware: 4.44.23552

Thanks.

No, Kobo Utilities shouldn't cause the eject issue, and it's not necessary to eject from somewhere else. I use Kobo Utilities and always eject both my Kobos from the device icon; have never had any problems. So it does seem like something might be wrong with your device. Try logging in and out, as recommended for corrupted databases.

DB corrupt refers to the device when running KU.
Disconnecting too early can let that happen. I wait until 'Importing' is done (If I have added a new book) or the home screen stays.

I have done this, and now my KOBO successfully passes the database check with KOBO Utilities. I have backed up the database too.

However, I had to redo all of my settings. No idea why these aren't a part of sync. Any tips on backing up settings?

Brightness.

Lexend as my default font along with its settings.

Swipe only to turn pages.

Turned off sync automatically.

That's what comes to mind.

My series data was also wiped as well. I guess that was part of the db. I was able to restore that with Calibre today.

Does any of the setting data go with the sync? It would be nice if it was restored on sync.

No. Device settings are local.

All of those settings are stored in the Kobo eReader.conf file; a simple text file stored in the device itself.

If you use the backup function of Kobo Utilities it is backed up by it.

There is some (not up-to-date) documentation at https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kob...ration_Options

I now have my device backing up to the profile per KOBO utilities every time I plug it in.

What's the process to restore those backups? I understand that restoring reading status is built into the plugin, but I'm not sure of the process for restoring either the database or the configuration file. Is it simply copy and pasting them back onto my KOBO assuming I haven't done a firmware upgrade since backup?
