If the screen is really glossy it can be a factory applied peel off protective film. With that peeled off the screen has an original appearance.

test if functional with tape
Sorry to necrobumping, but nobody says next trick.
I was scare to apply glue to light guide as touch wasn't working, despite everybody says that it must work after applying glue. So I just put some tape at each side and it worked perfectly. Finally I prefer to use just tape as whenever I need to open the ebook again there will be less risk to break the screen because of pulling bezel to hard because of the glue. Ah and what's said in this thread applies to kobo aura hd too(as mine is). So I don't know if this thread could be in general kobo forum. Anyway Thank you all

Kinda Necro posting here but my screen crapped out. Am I right now assume that you don't need to remove the ir and LEDs bezel thing and you can just directly replace the screen?

Did I miss up opening my old kobo h20 aura? I still have a KL2 but I wanted to try re-purpose this one and remove the frame.

I completed the screen replacement but I am getting a vcom mismatch. The original screen had values of -1.39 and my new screen is running at -2.45. Ifixit has instructions but it seems that it doesn't work on the Aura H2O gen 1. I'm good with instructions on hex editing etc etc but the ghosting on the new panel is horrible.

You can change the vcom value, but I'm almost certain it won't help. I can provide you with three images with different Waveform values; you might notice some difference, although I'm not sure, as all three images work equally well on the same device. |

The Kobo N250 Aura H2O display is the ED068TG1 (Carta). You bought the wrong display. It will work, of course, but with all the consequences. I'll prepare the images and send you a private message. |

Crap, google gave me the wrong information. So if I were to get the correct display, will I still have issues? Not sure if I should sink in more money to a new display if it will still cause me issues. Even though its like 25 bucks for a new display, I'm still concerned that the VCOM mismatch might cause issues.

I've read the entire post, since I have a Kobo H2O with water damage on the screen. The holes weren't properly aligned with the circuit board, and even after I fixed them, this message keeps popping up. Do I need to put the cover back on for it to work? I put it back on but didn’t secure it with new tape, and the problem isn’t fixed. I’m desperate—it seems like replacing the screen didn’t help at all.

If the alignment of the IR guide is correct (see #10 of this thread) then either the IR guide is dirty somewhere or otherwise damaged or it's a problem with the IR diodes or other blockage around them. Unfortunately it's quite difficult to determine where it is failing exactly.
