Else, in any case, I draw a hard line for feature to now.
No new features, or it will request a very clear and strong support.
Can we please be able to change the white color and the black color to what works best for us? And another thing, those who are dyslexic work best with some colors so for some, this may not work as is.

Yes an arrow key** moves to next book in sort order, and the BD changes accordingly, but the shelf it's on does not come into view. And that's true irrespective of Group By.

** - but which arrow is the question.

When a library is opened:

↑ moves to book on the left, ↓ moves to book on the right, → moves to book on shelf below the current one, ← moves to book on shelf above the current one.

Now here's the rub… if I click on a book, the arrow keys start working as one would expect:

← moves to book on the left, → moves to book on the right, ↓ moves to book on shelf below the current one, ↑ moves to book on shelf above the current one.

In Shelf view, calibre://show-book/ links "don't work" if the show-book target is "out of sight". In List or Grid View, when a show-book link is 'clicked', the list or grid will 'jump' to target book… i.e. make it the currently selected book… and 'scroll' the list or grid to bring the target into View. That second step doesn't happen in Shelf view.

The calibre links are in a long text custom column (Links/#links) which is shown in the Book details panel, hence 'clickable'.

If you can add inverted color outline to the texts, I think it is readable.

Yes, there was a change requiring a new binary build. Later today.

If we're going to give options for choosing the text color, might as well give this option to as much as possible, which means alsmot everywhere:
  • text on light spine background
  • text on dark spine background
  • text on divider
  • line on the divider
  • divider background
  • the current seleted book highlight
  • current book highlight
  • seleted books highlight

now in master https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...8770471daf6e87

Now, alsmot everythings is customizable in the bookshelf view, everythings.

*sigh* Aaaarrrgghhh. We're in the final stretch and that not a bad suggestion, in the very line of the lasts suggested... if it is easily possible, wich a don't know and realy not sure.

@Kovid, go ahead for the release, I will look if I can do something that is not bad and work, but don't wait me. If this require to be in a Calibre 9.1, fine.

Update on the outline:

Yeah, no. Not for me.

Experimental test show that it work pretty good inded, but correctly align the text in the center of the spine is a too much pain for me at this stade.
I'm completly over.

All good.

IMO the Group By drop-down should either be in alpha order, or separate builtin and custom columns with a divider line.

@anyone- Apart from because you can - why would anyone group by anything other than the primary sort key.

I've done it, just because I can, on several libraries and couldn't keep track of where I was. And I kept asking myself the same question - why would I want to take what feels like a random walk through my library… it's tiresome, and I could get lost?

If nothing else it warrants a warning - e.g. "Are you sure you want to Sort on Authors and Group on Tags"

Subsorting - For example, group by authors and sort by rating, easy way to see books by authors in order of rating.
