Question KOReader often crashes and I find the device with no battery left on Kobo Clara HD.

Hello,

So I'm wondering: does it crash because the battery is defective (i.e. old) and runs out of juice without warning, or does KOReader crash and drain the battery?

It always happens while the device is sleeping.

I'm wondering if the battery just doesn't have much capacity anymore but the BMS (if there is one?) somehow fails to accurately report the SoC.

When I last switched it off a few days ago, there was around 70% battery left according to the battery meter in KOReader. Now it's 0%. When I look at the battery statistics, it seems to say it only used 29%: what happened to the other 71%?

How can I tell for sure if I need to buy a new battery and replace it or if the problem is elsewhere?

I don't know about this specific device, but in my experience with Kobos you shouldn't take the final 20% to 40% into consideration. Maybe less if the battery's aging. That being said, depending on what you mean by a few days that does sound oddly short. You'll have to share verbose debug logs (see the bug report template) to see if it's properly sleeping, though it'd surprise me if it weren't.

That aside, the battery statistics won't log anything while sleeping, for obvious reasons.
