Q. should books translated by Anat Admati take up shelf space?

I say no - bookshelves are not an index/catalogue.

In the example shown Anat Admati [translator] is the third name in the list of 'Authors' for the book "Rios De Londres"

There is a restore default button at the bottom right but IIRC it restored defaults for the full look & feel section. As for shelf height default, simply set it to the minimum value allowed and it will use automatic.

I dont see how animation could affect scroll speed, animation is not trigerred when scrolling only when the mouse is moved.

Yes, is feasible to let you control the opacity of the thumbnails and control their "ghostly" effect, so that can have a fully opaque one.
Work on that.

@Kovid - I guess it is perception thing.

For me List, Shelf, and Grid are alternative presentations of the library catalogue — i.e.they have equal status. And one of them must be active at all times. I don't want to hide the Grid or Shelf views, I want to show (switch to) the List view.

OTOH the Tag browser, Cover browser, Book details, and Quickview windows can be shown and hidden independently of one another, irrespective of which library catalogue view is in use.

There is a shortcut in the Miscellaneous group - Focus the book list - the default sequence is Shift+Esc. I don't know what it's meant to do - but as far as I can tell it does nothing. I think it was created when the Give the Tag browser keyboard focus shortcut was implemented - but that shortcut is a toggle (it has no default), so there's no need for a Focus the book list shortcut… maybe it can be given a purpose… Show the book list

I would typically go into Grid view (and now maybe Shelf view) via the clicking the relevant button when I'm waiting for a CSR on the phone, or a slow talking heads download etc.

No exception, no popup dialog, no stacktrace, the only warning I have is this log:

The problem is that the cover is being dulled way too much. When I have it set to no text and to show the full cover, the covers can be rather dark and dull and hard to read. That's because the colors are being muted. I'd like to see how it looks with the cover colors not touched at all.

I have another bug to fix in Bookshelf view. When I click Group by and select Hyphen, it shows when the books with hyphens start, but not when they end.

This snip shows the bug and shows the dull muted colors that need fixing. Have a look at the last cover on the lower right. It's unreadable.

I've another really fun bug.

As you can see i f the screen grab in the previous post, there is no text on the covers. But when I go to add the text back, it doesn't display. I don't know how to get it to display. I added in {title} for line 1 and {author} for line 2 like I previously had and it won't work.o once you remove both line 1 & 2, you can't add them back. Also, we should be able to specify what color we want the text on the covers.

Now for another bug. Wen I have disabled the hover animation, it's actually more choppy and slower then setting it to 100 milliseconds.

For the cover, is not a bug, it work as indented:
The cover is draw with a transparency and a backround color corresponding at the dominant color of the cover. If the colors are dull and muted, is because the cover, and so it dominant color, is very dark.

But, as requested by @jackie_w, you can now control the opacity of the thumbnail cover https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...d3ee6d101067fb

Else, for your Hyphen Group by, the group end end when a new divider appear, so if you group is very long, the next divider could not appear on the screen.

And for this issue that re-adding a template after removed both, you seem not the only one to encouter it, I will check that.

It doesn't have to appear on the same screen as showing when the hyphen starts. But it should show when the hyphen stops. Otherwise, there's no way to know which books don't have hyphenation. So this really does need to be fixed.

The color of the text on the covers is in different color and doesn't always work. We have white text and black text. We should be allowed to change the text colors as we see fit. And it would be a good idea to allow optional bolding of the text. As you see, the text in the first book on the left is not very readable. The screen grab I did turns out to be larger when what's on screen. So it's easier to read then what I am seeing in calibre. And even then, unless your resolution was the same as mine or larger, you'd be able to better read the text.

Unless I misunderstood @un_pogaz has already said he'll look at allowing customisation of opacity/transparency. No need to push so aggressively. Let's just be patient, shall we?

If these buttons are just for that kind of view. AFAIK Calibre mostly uses the Nuke the Config folder. It would be nice to be able to clean-slate just a the current section: Editor, viewer, shelf,...
