Yeah, but you'll get more pickles with vinegar.
Everybody has to determine for themselves how much organization, metadata and searching capabilities they need. This also depends on context. For books, I usually just need to sort by modify date. What I want is on the top. Rarely do I need to type a few characters into a search box to find what I need. For my guitar transcriptions, I can selectively search by artist, title, tags, words in first line. I can sort by artist, title, year, modified. I can filter by done, WIP or TODO. For transcriptions I find the effort to tag is worth it, for books it's not worth the bother. YMMV. |

You, sir, are just wrong.

Hi all.
I'm wondering if this device is still worth picking up if it's very cheap? The form factor looks great. I'm looking around for a 7-8" device but prices for new ereaders are very steep. Would this still be worth a shot? |

I was a diehard B&N fan for years, but that was a while ago. I've pretty much gone to Onyx 6" readers, which doesn't help you at all. Bigger than 6" always has a premium price. So I guess that the 7.8" B&N is the budget bigger-than-6" on the market. You might consider Kobo or Onyx. |

I have both the original GLP as well as the 2nd gen. I actually prefer the original and use that as my primary. |

I love my GL4+. At least I did until my husband took it over. I was going to buy another one until BN said they are going to release new readers this year. I am waiting to see what they release. Until then I am using my GL4.

I know for most people it doesn't really matter what the processor is but since I use low-level tools it does to me. The NST was TI OMAP and I wrote tools for that. The next stuff was Freescale (then NXP) iMX6 and I wrote tools for that. Now the stuff is Allwinner and I never bothered figuring that out. Currently I'm more interested/informed on Qualcomm processors which B&N doesn't use. |

Not really. The firmware is awful. Worse then Kindle.

No, it's not "awful". And, you have to look at in the context of what's available. If your top priority is a 7.8" to 8" reader that's affordable, there are no other options and the firmware is good enough.
I personally have concluded that in the absence of anything new on the market, my next reader will have to be a Glowlight Plus for just that reason, even though I'd rather stay with Kobo because I direct download my purchases. You can't buy what's not out there. Some nuance in your responses that acknowledged the issues would make them more useful. |

You can also install KOReader on a Nook, I believe. I haven't tried that, though.

If it's cheap, it's sure worth a shot. The hardware is nice and you can install KOReader if you can't tolerate the native UI.
