By the time people have had a chance to kick the tires and report it will be hard to wade through all the off topic clutter. I just Googled "Amazon to allow downloads of DRM free books" and got this answer from the AI:

The ai has that last bit a little scrambled. The feature needs to be enabled for any DRM-free titles published before 9 Dec 2025.

There are still a lot of unknowns. The information provided by Amazon on this has been for publishers, not consumers.

We don't even know yet whether purchases made before Jan 20 will be eligible for downloading.
