Beta testers for calibre 9 needed

Released beta 8.99.3 with the following changes:

* Add a max font size in the cover browser view preferences
* Page counts are updated when a format is removed, not just when it is added
* When using two lines for the spine, they are drawn horizontally centered
* Group by has been moved form context menu to search bar for bookshelf view
* Bookshelf: Option to control is narrow books drop the second line or are widened to show it
* Bookshelf: draw second line to the left of the first line when text is top to bottom
* Bookshelf: Use largest attached monitor as basis of automatic size calculation
* Various minor fixes.

@DNSB: Update the to this version of the beta and your error will go away (it was caused bya mismatch between the bianry and source)

Was looking for the 'Group by' action then I found it in this extrardinary location, wheee!!



(it helps somewhat center the search bar field in calibre UI, despite it being visible only on shelf view..)

@JimmXinu: Your issues are all addressed in master. There is no place to recount batches of books, note that you can always recount the full library as that recount does not actually recount a book unless the books formats have changed since the last count, or the previous count failed because of DRM or an error, so it is very fast to recount.

@BR: https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...462a79d05a07fd and cover browser has its own setting for double click whichis why it doesnt respect the tweak. And you can disable the cover hover already using the Exapnd on hover dropdown in the bookshelf settings.

I never use the cover browser, I only looked at it on this occasion for comparison.

minor nit: the three settings relating to hover behaviour should be adjacent

OT: Now that Sort by is shown at left of Search Bar in the Grid and Shelf views (because there are no column headers), why not show it in List view too. Clicking headers is a PITA for multicolumn sorts (do I click minor->major or major->minor) - Sort by is explicit and visible… and save-able.

There seems to be a bug in the Editor when it comes to copying and pasting.

When editing I copy bits of code from a previous book into the current book.
I am trying to copy...

There should be a   between those tags, but it gets stripped out and replaced with a normal space.

Any idea what could be causing that? It's never happened before. I am using v8.99.3

I already do, when I'm in Grid view, and now Shelf view, I have two functionally identical buttons - I'd rather have one button that is always in the same place in all three views.



I ignored the aesthetic anomaly (duplicate item in toolbar) when it was just List and Grid, but now its List, Grid and Shelf . . .

Given you want a line space, it's best to do this via CSS.

Might I suggest a change in Shelf view Preferences
Instead of captions as Title and Author, use Line 1 and Line 2 (Leave the default templates as is)

My use case was {Title} and {Series}
By labeling as Line 1 and line2, the new user does not feel that is the only valid use

If there is no series, the line is not rendered. PERFECT

Yea, but I prefer this method for the copyright page.
I am not aware of any functional differences between the two methods.

While I will likely never use the bookshelf view, I agree that removing the implied title and author only is a good choice.
