I been doing this way for several days now, and wifi hasn't turned on at all even if I reboot. My battery life is still great using the remote 3-4 hrs a day.

I got the remote for Christmas as anticipated. Last night in bed I read for an hour and a half using the Clara BW. Once I enabled the Bluetooth, I turned off WIFI. The front light was around 25%. Total drain in an hour and a half was 2%.

Not sure I trust the battery monitor with the software update on my Clara BW. Thought I was getting little drain with remote and wifi off. On 2 separate occasions now on restart monitor has jumped from 90 to 55%.

Losing over 10% per hour on a Libra 2 with the remote with wifi turned off. Also noticing the remote not registering button presses pretty regularly.

Exactly my experience — including the failure to register button presses; for me, it's roughly every tenth press that doesn't register (although there's no pattern to it). I've checked to see if the failure to register occurs when NickelClock is changing to a new minute, but there is no correlation.

I wonder how it works with a logitech unifying dongle attached with an otg cable, and a logitech device.

I did not have this problem when previously testing the remote with a Kobo Clara 2e. I will continue to investigate. |

It sounds like perhaps since the Libra 2 has an older chipset, Kobo is using more aggressive power management to try to save battery life, and that's causing the connection to drop and thus miss some button presses.

Clara BW MEDIA Tek, I'm seeing power drain even when turning Wifi off each wake with remote. I will wait for software update before using it regularly.

1. Kobo Remote may not the best bluetooth controller, even on the koreader side, users of the bluetooth plugin report continuous disengagement from the device to the point that I had to put an optional "re-initialize the bluetooth device connection every few seconds" type of hack into a side branch of the bluetooth koreader plugin.
2. Bluetooth and Wifi are on the same chip on 2E as well, and if it's not like that on a BW MediaTek, that would surprise me. Just so you know; as a sequence you can turn on wifi, then bluetooth and after engaging with the controller you can turn off wifi. It's not going to make the drain go to zero, but it makes the difference between 18% and 5% an hour. I think the nickel menu bluetooth commands should work on newer devices, it's been a while but I think I bound them directly to nickel bluetooth commands used by nickel itself. FWIW, on a 2E (with a non-kobo remote) I was getting around %3/hour drain if the device is sleeping while bluetooth is turned on (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...5&postcount=23). Considering that as baseline, it's not surprising under normal use is draining significantly more. There's not a lot kobo can do short of spinning the hardware (which they did with BW/Colour). Checking my notes.. force_wifi can be off, and wifi can be turned off for devices that do not require constant re-engagement (kobo may not be one of those). I use koreader, and while wifi is turned off, 80% of the time reading with an 8bitdo, the drain is %5.36/hr during active use. |

Sorry about the double post but for those not following the other remote thread:
Strange, though the remote's power draw on my Clara BW is high, it seems to be very usable with both my Android and iOS Kobo apps. Until fixed I'm very happy to use it with my iPad Mini. Paired right up and works like a champ. |

I have a Libra 2 and am suffering the same problems with my remote as others have reported (high battery drain; button not always registering; frequent disconnects).
One thing I have noticed when my remote is connected and I look at More > Settings > Bluetooth connection, is that in the SAVED DEVICES section, under "Kobo Remote", it says "CONNECTED". Then, when the blue light starts flashing on the remote (as mentioned above) it changes to "SAVED, AVAILABLE". Once the blue light stops flashing, it changes back to "CONNECTED". Also, at the bottom left of this screen, it constantly says Scanning... and there is a progress circle which never stops rotating. Is anybody/everybody else seeing the same on their Libra 2? |
