I can go ahead with trying them as well. I didn't really understand why two authors, but can't thank you enough for the heads up!! I've got 3 books checked out to try tonight, just back ups, so if I like the first one I try, I'll let the other 2 go back for now I so love Libby, had to get used to it after being on Overdrive for years, but I made the switch, very happy with itthank you again Apache

@abbynormal52 since you used to read romance novels, you'll probably like most series by Janet Evanovich.
I really liked the Fox and O'Hare Series, but the other series are also very entertaining. |

This could just be my brain not comprehending but I don't think that book at least will be good for me to try any further. My CNS was compromised, and I do very well with my "routine" things, but I'm still in recovery. Thank you for your info, I do appreciate it, denise~abbynormal |

Also helps to use literature-map.com to find reasonably related authors.

Have you taken a look at Louise Penny's Chief Inspector Gamache series?
I also thought of Dorothy L. Sayers Lord Peter Wimsey books but they are English and not American. |

Have you tried Dorothy Cannell? Her first book, The Thin Woman, is one of the all-time greats. The others are several steps down.

Not a series, but I've always greatly enjoyed H. Beam Piper's "Murder in the Gunroom":

There's also Mitford Murders Series. Comfortable and easy, if a bit average. And naturally, Agatha Christie. You can only go wrong with her on her last novels. Cormoran Strike was already mentioned. There's some romance, but it's light and sidelined, some novels can be gruesome, though. The best modern detective series, by far. |
