Just to confirm, 4.38.23555 is the version for older devices like my Aura One? Haven’t updated in a while so I guess it’s time since Pocket is out of business.

I ask because it seems that the Kobo Firmware page doesn’t seem to consistently list that particular version, and programs such as KoboPatchFan don’t list 4.38.23555 as a version for the device.

KoboPatchFan is not presently working with any of the new new firmware versions. So that's out.

The firmware page is consistent. It does list 4.38.23555 for the Aura One. Also, in the Kobo Developer's forum, there are patches for 4.38.23555. Most will work. But not all.

So you can update to 4.38.23555 for your Aura One and you can patch the firmware.

Ah, I see, thanks JSWolf! I got used to checking for updates with KoboPatchFan and I guess I got complacent.

Updated and patched manually and everything works on my device.

Basically, unless KoboPatchFan is updated like the patches have been, it won't ever be viable again. For right now, on the current firmware, it's not going to work at all.

The programs to do the patches have been updated and that's allowing most of the patches to still work. That hasn't happened with KoboPatchFan. The author hasn't been online since October 21, 2025.

What I'm confused by is if people are so concerned about the KoboPatchFan tool, why not just fork the GitHub repository and make any required updates.
