User Interface - Remove 'Virtual Library' and 'Sort' buttons?
Hi,
Apologies if this is an RTFM question but experimenting and googling have failed me so far... I have edited the menus to my liking, but there are two buttons to the left of the search bar ('virtual library' and 'sort') which I would like to remove - and I have searched though each of the toolbar settings without finding them... Can these be removed? TIA. |

First: Those are not on the Toolbar line., Thus what you see trying to edit Toolbars. (that is the whole Search bar line and can be turned off using the Layout button(s) on the lower Right)
AFAIK That button is the only place you can create / Maintain / Remove VL I am not sure where that SORT button came from as the toolbar version has an down arrow with A / Z (that can be put on the search bar END via Preferences Searching). Could a User Plugin have added that controls VL tab order? |

Thanks for this - turning off the search bar from the layout button does indeed take the unwanted buttons with it, but there is then no way to carry out a search.
I was hoping there would be a 'search' action that I could then add to a toolbar, but if there is I can't find it (?) It appears that those buttons are 'hard-wired' into the search bar and you can't search unless they also come along for the ride. This is with the latest version, Calibre 8.16.1, and no plugins. It would be perfect if there was a way to duplicate the pressing of the advanced search gear icon located on the left end of the search field...

I am so use to using Ctrl-F in other places, that I had not realized it is not available in the main GUI.

The Sort button only appears in the Search bar if you're in Grid view, that's because there are no Column headers to click.
The Virtual library button can't be removed from the Search bar, not sure why. It can be added to other toolbars or menus. BR |
