Confused about using calibredb to update author, etc

Hello,
I noticed that some my authors were not in mypreferred format (ln, fn mi) so I used calibre db to list allmy book ids and author and saved to file. Thenedited the file to correct some author names.

I also noticed te in calibre gui the author_sort field was empty even though editing metadata shows author_sort info.

So i ran calibredb modify using book id to set author and author_sort to my edited names.

Returning to GUI, nome of telisted author names changed not did an new author_sort info appear in te list.

This has me confused. What if anything did Iaccomplish bydoingall of that?

I hope someone will enlighten me; thisis the first time using any of the cli stuff

Better off using the GUI because then you can use the Quality Check plugin to sort out the author names.

Thanks, tried that. It didn't help
The send to kobo was a mess. The authors list showed AA and Milne as 2 separate authors, as an example. Every set of initials became an author as well as all the last names, and some mddle names as well

That's because Kobo wants the authors to be FN LN, not LN, FN.

Thank you. I had no idea. In calibre, fan on makes the did structure difficult for mr; on, fan works better for that. To get a book on iPad I often need to use fob pro file mgr. To find and share book. I rarely know author's fn

The SORT (include Kobo devices) is STILL on Last Name
Abel Baker
Joe Smith
Sam Smith
And the Kobo Search will show ALL no matter where Able appear (Author or Title)

I think the OP means the sort in the file manager on their computer. That's by the first name, when the authors are FN LN.

This is why I love these forums. We all see different things in these posts.
EDIT: You cant, change the LIBRARY naming. Only the device

If that is the case, simply change the send to TEMPLATE from {authors) to (author_sort} there is a template 'cheat sheet' on the Send to forms
