If you use Sigil and its editor does the exact same thing then you will know it is an OS change in MacOS as I use both Sigil and calibre on my Macs (Sequoia) and do *not* see the issue you report on either one. But Sigil uses Qt 6.9.3 and is built to target MacOS 12 and later, but built with the XCode version from Sequoia, not Tahoe.

No idea which kind MacOS version is targeted by Calibre on MacOS and which SDK/XCode version calibre uses.

The next version of calibre will be built with Qt 6.10.1 and trying with that on my Tahoe machine does not show the issue. So you just need to wait for the next release.
