I've also compared a recent iPad pro with Nxtpaper 11 and Nxtpaper 14. The iPad, or any other tablet or desktop doesn't even come close for coloured ebooks, video, photos and comics on either Nxtpaper. The iPad screen reflects too much. The Sage, Libra, Libra 2, Mars, Paperwhite 3 are only better than Nxtpaper in good ambient light with frontlight off. The 10.9" Nxtpaper is about 16:10 and handiest for notes. The 14.25" Nxtpaper is 3:2 aspect so works well with two page layouts where image is across two pages, or big multi-column magazines or A4.

I've seen two models of Kaledio 3 in local shops. They are miserable without frontlight and very desaturated colours (or else they'd be even darker).

The Eink Corp admits the Gallery 3 is TEN TIMES slower refresh than mono eink. It's for shops, but failing to sell there because they want video.

I disposed of Elipsa to a family member as it's too heavy. I gave away Remarkable, but the person replaced it with a Sage and gave it back.

The Kindle 9.7" DXG was my worst purchase ereader. The K3 is far superior and the PW3 better for PDFs!

So I'll stick to Libra and Sage for novels, and Nxtpaper for illustrated books, comics or big A4.

I got a Nxtpaper 50 to replace my existing outdoor phone and Sony PRS-350 & 4.7" eink to "read on the go".

That makes sense, and would be in line with (almost) every software project ever done.

Seems the Sage may be sold out.

Does anyone know if it's sold out or discontinued?

I would guess it's just sold out. If that stays the same months from now, then it means it is discontinued.

As I recall, here in the US, it has been "sold out" for months.

Canada and UK sold out too, dunno for how long, but in Australia you can get some. So I wouldn't say it is discontinued, yet. But the pattern here looks kinda the same as when the Libra 2 was phased out.

I'm seriously considering this as a long time user of KOReader.

My main hesitation is the long-term stability. I'm concerned about the hassle of blocking auto-updates and keeping the jailbreak working.

Could anyone who has jailbroken a newer Kindle share their experience?

In light of this comment: there will be no Tolino Vision 7 (Carta 1300, better battery life) for those of us who consciously decided to buy a Tolino Vision 6 instead of a Kobo Libra 2, as Kobo decided to unify the operating system of Kobo and Tolino devices. No 7", no 6", no 8" monochrome. The disappearance of Tolino devices with Android is definitive and not temporary.

Is there any news about the development of a new black-and-white Libra with a 1300 card and improved hardware? I'm tired of waiting and almost ready to order a refurbished or used Libra 2. In fact, all 7" e-readers these days have flush-mounted screens (like the Paperwhite), and I don't really like that.

I just got my refurbished Libra 2 today. I forgot how crisp these Clara 1200 screens were, even compared to the Clara 1300

After much deliberation, I also ordered a refurbished Libra 2. There's still a small chance Kobo will release a new Libra BW this spring. Then I'll send the Libra 2 I bought to my mom and then get another new one. In the meantime, I want to get to know the brand better, learning about the settings and hacks. The reason for the switch is the same: I don't like the flush-mounted screen on the Paperwhite.

I have a Kobo Clara BW. Out of interest, is the text much less clear on the colour ones than the B/W ones? or would you only really notice side by side?

Yes, the screen is darker and more fuzzy on Kaleido panels. It's sort of like looking at your book through a screen door. You can compensate by using the frontlight, but it will never look as good as a normal panel. Many people are fine with this tradeoff in order to get colour, but if you really care about contrast and clarity, you will probably be disappointed.
