Just Ordered my Kindle Scribe Colorsoft

Well, I was surprised this morning to see that the new Scribe Colorsoft is available to order. Pretty hefty price, no discount -- rather as I expected. Used Prime card and took the payments, Traded in my old Scribe and an old Oasis 2 for $95. WAS surprised though to see that my smaller Colorsoft did not show as also being eligible for trade in. Why? Beats me! Oh well there is always eBay. The availability after ordering is on or before 1/27. Really cannot wait to get my hands on this one -- I do still wish that Amazon would have announced a display only Kindle Colorsoft with a Scribe-size screen. I do not expect any reason to ever access the writing features. So a good portion of the price on this is rather a waste for me. But seeing my comic collection full size will be worth it (to me)! I got graphite but I really would have liked the new Fig color but it was not available to order as yet.

I think they do not offer trade-in for Kindles/devices which are current model. For example I might want to trade in my Fire 11 Max but nothing has replaced it yet.

What do you mean by 'display only'? don't include a stylus? Yes, that might be nice as even if you want to write on it, since you could probably get a third party stylus for less than what you pay to have it bundled with Scribe.

But it's worth checking out note taking capabilities, even on my 2022 Scribe is is a lot better than iPad with special screen protector and Apple Pencil tip. I prefer writing longhand to typing, at least for creative writing and journalling.

Mine arrives next year and looking forward to having color available for notes and highlights as well as (probably) comics. I like the newer design as it will have larger screen and yet lighter than my current Scribe (which I plan to keep).

Phrased that poorly sorry! I meant that my dream would be a Colorsoft that is not a Scribe just a reading display but the size of a Scribe! And cheaper!

Amazon will not sell a reading only large kindle. Amazon is intelligent. When that reading kindle is sold, sales of scribe will plummet. they know that. reading is strong point of amazon. writing is not. both have to be packaged to help amazon.

The competing devices in this 10"+ class (e.g. BOOX, Kobo, PocketBook) all support styluses and include them with the device. The market for those that do not isn't there, or someone would be selling such a device. And this is already a niche market. Overwhelmingly, people just get an iPad or Android tablet because they are cheaper, more versatile and there are apps for everything.

11" display is not ideal form factor for reading, any more than it is for physical books of that size. It's comfortable as a notebook replacement and for fixed layout content.

The components needed to digitize stylus action are minimal compared to the display panel itself, and probably the stylus itself is where they (and competitors) are building in most of the profit margin for the Scribe. Without that margin, a 'reading only' device would not be that much cheaper.
