The reviews for the Kindle Scribe color is out. Apparently the colors are bright and vivid and the device is snappy. I hate Amazon and its monopoly and lock in but they have the money and wherewithal to put out good hardware and keep the models coming. Meanwhile kobo seems to be waiting for liquidation or something
If I had the technical know how to port Plato to Kindle I might just jump ship |

Of course kobo should still make the Libra, if they're not moribund. There's some doubt on this point |

I also have the feeling that not everything is ok with Kobo. Why aren't they releasing more new models? Are they really planning to abandon the ereader business or even fold altogether?
That said, Amazon has had no models I'm interested in for a number of years now. Color, no matter how good, doesn't interest me and 10" screens don't either. Nor the symmetrical, buttonless form factor. If Kobo is really packing their bags, I'll look toward Pocketbook and Boox devices, not Kindles. |

Kobo needs to do something as they are losing to Amazon. They need to complete. What they have now is not competitive enough. Amazon sees the reasoning to have BW as well as color models. Kobo seems to not get it.

I do tend to suffer from a lack of belief when anyone refers to the colours on an eInk Kaleido 3 screen as bright and vivid. Heck, even the newest Gallery 3 device I've seen is noticeably a downgrade from most active display devices. |

What you are looking for maybe never happen, so have you thought about to go with Kindle, jailbreak it, put Koreader on it and call it a day? You have to ust set up Koreader once, and that's it. Of course, for us it’s super easy, since in my country the online bookshops only sell DRM-free books anyway. |

So do I, but if Kobo never releases another b/w model with a 7-8" screen I'll probably move to KOReader on a Pocketbook or Boox device. |

Maybe they are careful what to release, but their only "bad call" was probaly just the first gen Elipsa, as it's really old already and they still haven't sold them out. At the same time, a new Libra BW would be a definitely good sell, as the Aura One re-release or sort of that. Although the 7" BW Carta 1300 screen has stylus input, which I'd think adds another layer on the top, so it probably won't give the same level of sharpness like the Libra 2 did. Not sure if E Ink sells this type of display without the stylus input feature. Last edited by Apollyon202; 12-11-2025 at 03:57 AM. |

I will do the same, if Kobo won't give us what we need, we will part ways... Worst case scenario Onyx will always have a Libra - Oasis type of ereader. Hopefully. I don't like Android, but I prefer the Onyx against Pocketbook, as the latter is in general, slower. Also, years ago there was an issue in my country with them: the officially sold cases were too tight, and bent the Pocketbooks, and there were several cases (pun not intended) when PB users ended up with a cracked screen beacuse of that. To make things worse, it wasn’t covered under warranty, which left people disappointed with the brand. |
