I suspect your Fire HD 6 4th generation is using a MTP connection. Linux and MacOS devices can only have a single program accessing a MTP device. If it is mounted on your desktop, you must dismount it from Linux and then let calibre mount it. How to dismount it is dependant on your unspecified Linux distro. You can also look into disabling automount for your Linux distro.
Just as a sidenote, your 2014 Fire HD 6, if my memory is correct, was the first generation where Amazon dropped Kindle from the name. |

When Calibre first detects a device it asks if it should manage it. If you clicked no, then it would be added to the Ignored Devices list. Check if that's happened in Preferences -> Ignored Devices.

DNSB, thanks for your reply. I am running Ubuntu Mate LTS 24.04. You are correct the Fire HD 6 is an MTP device. In first troubleshooting this issue, I found that there are a number of MTP tools that were not installed. I added mtp-tools, go-mtfs, libmtp-common, libmtp9t64, libmtp-runtime, and jmtpfs. This did not help the issue. I am not knowledgeable about how MTP support works in Linux, so I may have missed something wrt MTP support in Linux.

Frogm4n, thanks for your reply. Good catch but a check in Calibre Prefs > Ignored devices showed that I have not specified any devices to ignore in this Pref.

Might work to disable automount in DConf Editor under the org.mate.desktop.media-handling key.

DNSB and Frogm4n: thanks for the follow up! I see gvfs-goa-volume-monitor in my System Monitor. I will try stopping (not killing) that process. Thanks too Frog4man. Think I will go with temporarily stopping gvfs-goa-volume-monitor because knowing me I might forget a persistent conf change!
Cheers, Mike |
