Stark library stopping non-resident library cards

I received this email yesterday:

Hello,

We are reaching out to let you know that your Stark Library ecard account will expire at the end of this month. Due to increasing demand for digital resources for our in-state patrons, the high cost of digital materials, and reductions to funding for these resources, we are discontinuing our accounts for non-Ohio residents. We know these resources have been beneficial for those outside of Ohio who may not have local access, but at this time, we need to ensure we are meeting the needs of our Ohio constituents.

Your account will remain active through the end of the month.

We hope you have enjoyed access to Stark Library over the past year and that you continue to support local library resources in your area.

I know, I've heard

This is my favorite library, so I'm bummed. I'm good toward the end of the year with being paid up. A big loss for me, especially with older and hard to find books.

I just got the notice from Stark, and am looking for other options. I created an "ask" post, and it was removed. I received no notification so I'm assuming that I did not break any rule (I don't see how my question could be illegal), so I'm genuinely puzzled by what's going on with this.

And I'm still interested in any options now that Stark is no more ......

I was able to get a card through this Ohio library:

You can always check your posts to see what happened (and no, as has been pointed out, it wasn't removed). Moreover, there was a redirect post for the original thread.

Yes, member here for 15 years, and now ima just saying this:

1 Did a search, didn’t yield anything relevant, so made a new post

2 Came back to check for an answer, saw my post labeled as “moved” and when I clicked on it I got message that I did not have that permission — ?? Found nothing under my profile re the deleted post.

3 Sent contact inquiry, no reply

4 Had already found Dazrin’s linked thread, but when I look, no “libraries” group is apparent as advertised — ??

So, my apologies for burning bandwidth, but given how this was handled, I believe my puzzlement justified. Just saying.

The Libraries group is a restricted one that you have to activate. See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...51&postcount=2 for info on gaining access to it.

Thanks! I will check that out. I took the notice to mean that the state of Ohio was stopping the option, but maybe it was just Stark.

Thanks! Before making my original post above, I had found that thread but the "libraries group" was not showing up for me. Additionally, as I noted, the original thread that I had created was greyed out and labelled "moved," with no redirect showing, and when I clicked on it I got the notice that I didn't have "permission"(?) to see it. Now it looks as though the original post has been deleted, not moved. I was somewhat concerned that I had committed some kind of violation, which I wanted to clarify, and I also wanted an answer to my original question.

Curiously, the "libraries group" is now showing, so along with the info from John F (thanks again!) I should be set.

I'm guessing that the original issue may have been from some kind of software glitch. This forum software has a decidedly "dated" vibe to it, which is fine with me, and that may have something to do with it. Maybe it is my browser. Alternatively, someone could have erred in how they handled my original post, which is also fine as we all make mistakes.

Hopefully in the future any similar issues will be treated in the spirit of what I have become accustomed to here over the last 15 years, i.e. a friendly and polite manner. Just saying.
