This would be great for people with weakness in one of their sides or with other medical conditions. I have a couple of friends who would benefit from this!

Even though the white one will have a more powerful battery so the device will last longer.

If you are too weak to properly hold a Kobo, get a stand and this page turner. That would work well.

Where does it say that the white REMOTE will have a bigger battery? Once again you either (A) Know something Kobo doesn't or (2) are talking out of your, um, hat. I know which seems more likely to me.

I suspect Jon is thinking of the white Kobo Libra Colour N428B which has a larger battery than the black N428 KLC. The black N428B has the same battery as the white N428B.

OTOH, ghod alone knows how Jon comes up with some of the opinions he expresses.

Yep. I'd have been disappointed if he'd broken the habit of a lifetime and actually read the post he was responding to.

It looks nice. And if it stays paired without needing constant re-pairing as the other remote hacks I’ve tried did, I might just go for one.

That will need updated FW on the Kobos.

I await a suitable update for the Sage and then it might be worth using the BT Keyboard for annotation. It's fine with Linux or Android.

Appears that the Kobo Remote has gone on sale early in Australia via JB Hi-Fi for those curios!

I bought one on Saturday at JBHIFI. Tried it out - and it didn't work! Tried everything including changing the supplied battery thinking it might have been dead - (it wasn't). Bluetooth setting showed it connected. Also - the battery cover is incredibly hard to remove - had to use a piece of non slip shelf liner. I took it back this morning for a refund! Even the sales assistant could not get it working (and had same trouble with opening the battery cover). My Kobo is a Clara 2E with FW v.4.38.23171

If you get one you can pair it with an Android phone and check out what it's sending.
You can use my UsbMode.apk in my sig.

I suspect that you will need to wait for the 4.38.23552 or higher firmware before the Clara 2E will be able to use the remote.

If so - it's too late! Have decided that the battery cover issue is as big a problem as the BT not working.

I hope that coin cell powered devices with hard to remove battery covers get enormous pushback. Devices with convenient and easy coin cell replacement have been available for decades. I've had a number of recent devices with hard to remove battery covers and it is extremely frustrating.

Also very bad form to release a device before software support is deployed, especially in this case where the only thing missing should be a bluetooth HID kernel module, which could have been silently done years ago.

Coin devices should though have a screw on the cover. Some classic coin powered calculators have been updated to have that. It's deemed to reduce chance of a small child swallowing the cell.

However surprisingly young children have been known to discover the "screwdriver" and the joy of disassembly. They may even develop "The Knack" and become engineers.
