7" is too big for several of my purses and is harder to whip out on the spot even when it does fit; it's also bigger than I want to one-hand in bed. It's also not pocketable, at least not for my pockets. OTOH, I vastly prefer the bigger acreage of a 7.8" to 8" device when I'm sitting in my armchair; fewer page turns, more immersive reading. I suspect most here are willing to run to more than one device, especially since they likely have older devices still in play. It's not as if they have to buy a new ereader wardrobe in one fell swoop. Last edited by issybird; 11-14-2025 at 10:09 AM. |

I don't want all of those Readers. But the problem is that if anyone wants a Reader without color and larger then 6", I want to be able to be able to recommend a Kobo. So Kobo really needs to update everything over 6" and they need new BW models and not just really poor color models.

I can see some using a 6" for out and about and a larger 7"-8" for at home. |

I like my Libra 2.
How could I get another - used or new - for a friend? |

I can only find badly scratched up models for sale. I don’t think you can find new, but maybe refurbished. |

I’d just buy an Onyx Go 7 BW at this point. It’s a good ereader, and I can’t really think of anything against it. But if a nice Kobo comes out later, you can always sell the Onyx and get the Kobo. IF a worthy Kobo ever comes out…

I cannot see an Aura shaped Kobo coming out. But given that we did not see Kobo dropping the Libra 2, who knows.

I am very happy to have found a great marketplace deal for a Libra 2!
Upon inspection and comparison, though, I realized although both Clara 2E and Libra 2 are carta 1200, there is a noticeable difference between screen brightness settings and how much contrast the 2E provides. Although the pictures don’t highlight the differences, 2E is much more brighter and has better contrast. |

The max brightness is irrelevant except for colour as no mono I've seen needs more than 20% unless you using it as a torch. See comments about ancient Voyage vs Paperwhite 3 and Oasis 1 (6″) which probably use the same eink panel. Also some Libra and Libra 2 look different and mine look the same (and better than PW3 or Oasis 2 (7″). Cameras and especially people's screens are rarely good or accurate enough to compare. Even if the font is the same name, it might be different or renderer using different hinting. Size affects font contrast/sharpness too. |

Now adjust them to the same level of brightness - not the same percentage in settings, but until both are equally bright - and compare again. This is the relevant real-world comparison. Your Libra also looks marginally warmer in tone, so you could adjust that until it's equal also. I've never once looked at my frontlit Kobo (I'd had a number of then from Glo to Libra 2) and wished it could be brighter. I have, however, wished some of them could go dimmer (the original Glo especially). |
