Steps to reproduce: [LIST=1] Open the list of wifi networks.
Current result: only 2.4 GHz and mixed 2.4/5 GHz networks are listed, no pure 5 GHz networks are listed, inputting network info manually doesn't work, when connecting to mixed type networks the reader uses the 2.4 gHz band.
Workaround: None so far.

We have two ISPs because my husband works from home and a solid connection is required (prefacing with this to explain why I have two internet service providers).

I'm having the exact same issue with AT&T. Every device in my house can see both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks—except my Kobo Libra Color. It just doesn't detect the 5 GHz.

It connects to 5 GHz just fine on Xfinity. My husband has everything configured the same way, so there’s no logical reason it shouldn’t be seeing 5 GHz on AT&T.

I want to use the notetaking functions on my Kobo Sage while learning French.

It seems that the automatic handwriting recognition only picks up French characters when the system language is set to French, but even then, the advanced notebook cannot process "ç" while converting handwriting to text. Ironically, the conversion feature in the basic notebook works fine (when system language is set to French). Both the basic and advanced notebooks can convert at least other accented characters to text.

Edit: I have found out more information through testing. It seems that handwriting recognition language for advanced books is set permanently when an advanced notebook is created, and does not change when you change system language. So, for example, if you create an advanced notebook with English system language and later switch system language to French, that advanced notebook will still use English handwriting recognition. I talked to Kobo customer service about this, was told they relayed my report to their team. We'll see if anything comes of it; in the meantime, looks like the workaround is to switch languages before creating an advanced notebook (which sucks, for several reasons; I wish the HWR language was configurable).

Hi everyone,

I wanted to report a visual issue that I’ve seen on both the Kobo Libra Colour and the Kobo Clara (tested with firmware 4.43.23418).

When I look up a word in the dictionary, the popup window doesn’t close properly on the right side — it looks like the border is cut or open, as if the box wasn’t fully drawn.

This happens every time when using normal reading settings with margins.

However, if I remove all page margins and tap a word at the very end of a line, the popup appears correctly — the border is closed and looks fine.

It’s clearly something related to how the popup is positioned or how its width is calculated depending on the page margins.

I’ve tested different fonts, themes (light/dark), font sizes, and even did a factory reset, but the behavior is always the same. The popup looks slightly “open” on the right unless it’s at the very edge of the screen.

I’m attaching the photos so it’s easier to see what I mean. You can reproduce it quickly by looking up any word in the middle of a page, then again after setting all margins to zero and selecting the last word in a line.

I was wondering if anyone here knows whether this can be fixed or patched somehow — maybe through a kobopatch, or by adjusting the popup’s margins in Nickel’s configuration.

It seems to be a long-standing issue, since it happens on all firmwares.

What I'm seeing from your pictures is that the definition is too long or the word has multiple meanings that override the box, so there is a scroll bar.

2. Go to sleep

Current result: About 50% chance of freezing and not being able to come out of sleep without having to restart device
Workaround: I tried reinstalling firmware and rolling back to the previous firmware, did not fix issue

I can say for sure that this issue does not happen on 4.38.23171 on my Libra 2.

Have you tried doing a manual factory reset and then updating to 4.38.23429?

I'm keeping that option open as a last resort, but seeing as upgrading appears to be what started the issues, I'd rather stick with 171.

I just tried something different I read in reddit, I removed the battery and the SD card. So far so good! No freezzings yet.

Is it ok to upgrade with the firmware that's out now? I'm still unsure if it will affect my Sage. I hardly ever turn wi-fi on, but I am on 4.38.23171 and would like to use Instapaper, but don't want to have to go through the headache of trying to fix it if it bricks.

The Kobo reader models that showed a significant number of issues with the upgrade to 4.38.23429 were the Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2 v1 & v2 and the Kobo Aura Edition 2 v1 & v2. This opinion is based on the number of requests for firmware images for the Kobo Aura E2 devices and 4.38.23429 being rolled back to 4.38.23171 for OTA updates on those devices.

I upgraded my Sage to 4.38.23429 and saw no issues while running that firmware version.

1. Update Kobo to Early access
2. All previously sideloaded books that were on the device, will not display their Table of Contents on the Kobo device.

Current result:
If you sideload a new book after the update it will contain the ToC. But I can't find a workaround for the books that are already on the device. And I don't want to lose the annotations. If I open a book from the device using Calibre, Calibre shows the ToC.

Trying to update the ToC with Kobo Utilities doesn't work, Kobo Utilities says that the books have not been imported into the database of the device and therefore will be ignored.

A database check says that the database is ok.

Sending the already existing book to the device also doesn't work.

Also I can't seem to see the annotations using Kobo Utilities or Calibre. But they are accesible on the Kobo device and I saw them in the 'KoboReader.sqlite' database file.

Workaround:
Probably deleting the sideloaded book from the Kobo device, and resending it after Kobo has updated its database.
But losing the annotations in the process.

It seems that Kobo Utilities needs to be updated for the V5 firmware. I suggest you mention this in the Kobo Utilities thread.

I did actually find a workaround, not sure how good it is but oh well:

I accidently logged out of my Kobo account. After logging back in Kobo creates a new KoboReader.sqlite database so all old annotations are wiped out.

But I made a backup beforehand of my previous KoboReader.sqlite file. So I exported the Bookmarks from my old file as a CSV file and imported it into the new database file on the Kobo device. And the books actually do contain the old annotations now which is nice.

And yea since Kobo created a new database the ToC is working as well.

Wouldn't really recommend this workaround but yea I had to do it after accidentally logging out, but thankfully I had the old Database file.

Edit: but wouldn't really recommend anyone to update their device to the early access firmware. Page turning is really slow, and there is a bug where I can't open the settings to fine tune the fonts like thickness...
