There's a wiki page about Calibre Cover Settings in the FanFicFare Plugin.

I suspect you want some combination of the "Inject/update the generated cover inside EPUB" setting, using Calbre's Polish book to inject manual covers, and use_old_cover:true in personal.ini

Thanks! Seems like the easiest for me is to use the GC settings in the FFF GUI.

With fics where I want to manually add a cover, I'll have it generate and inject a cover, then I go in and just replace the generated cover image with whatever image I want.

That seems to work to generate a separate cover (or in this case a titlepage.xhtml) file in the epub. It would be faster to select multiple fics and run a polish or use the modify epub plugin, but I don't like that it creates an original_epub.

Hello! Does anyone know the metakey for editing chapter titles with replace_metadata? Is there a master list of metakeys anywhere?

Downloading metadata for stories

Why is the "Downloading metadata for stories" process not a background job like all the others?

When updating a large number of novels it can take 2hrs or more for the metadata to update and then the process becomes a background job.

Just curious because it makes calibre unusable during the process.

Might only be an issue for me on my super old Mac.

Thanks.

Limitations and assumptions of the existing code.

Metadata download generally happens in foreground because there are several places where there may need to be GUI interaction. Reject list, changed story URL, collision with other existing books, user login required, etc.

There is an option for 'Background Metadata' you can check if you use 'Update EPUB Always' instead of Calibre Metadata only update. Most users who care about metadata enough to want it updated, also want it updated in the epub title page.

IMO, if you're launching enough updates at once to take hours, you're doing too many at once. (Unless it's because of deliberately large slow_down_sleep_time.)
