Yes, it started with "The new folder support looks awful"
![]() It seems the pictures referred to are just taken with 5 files per screen. I guess it will be possible to have 10 or 20 files per screen with the new firmware too. |

As far as the blog is concerned: That would have been a perfect place to tell customers what is happening. No mention there that they would do 2 different FWs, all they said is that ePub support was coming which would lead the average user astray as I am sure not too many people out there have heard about the "single DRM-only policy" Amazon is enforcing. So most people reading the blog would think they can read ePub books they buy in a store on the Cybook which will never be the case (the fact that the Weltbild devices don't have mobi-DRM seems to prove that it will be the same the other way around for existing users). I wonder why they still have that blog as they have still to post one useful information on it... |

Aaaaall riiiight. So only now I get it.
The Weltbild cybook is like a special brand *SPECIFICALLY* for the german market, because german publishers are stubborn and want to publish only drmed epub ebooks. And the original fw still can be totally different from the weltbild fw, with mobi support and all. Yeah, I 100% agree that it should be labeled or designated differently from cybook gen3, so that it wouldn't come to confusion. Because it got me really confused. I look forward to having ePub support and I hope MobiPocket will die as a format since it is technically inferior compared to ePub. |

Not me. I don't want to lose dictionary support, and that's something that ePub doesn't have! Yes, you're right of course that ePub is hugely better than Mobi in terms of its capabilities, but Mobi is "good enough" for most novels.

I have started to use the MobiPocket dictionary lookup on my phone and it is actually as fast as looking up a word using my Cybook and it also works for paper books. So I can live without dictionary lookup.

That's a very good idea! I'll install my Chambers dictionary on my HTC Touch Smartphone and see how well it works on there.

Mobi defines a specific "dictionary format" (which is how the Gen3 automatically recognises what is a dictionary and what isn't). I do not believe that ePub has any such specification for a dictionary.

I wouldn't really miss the dictionary support in it's present form. I so wish bookeen would impove it somehow (faster navigation, dedicated button). At the moment I'm using mobipocket dictionaries on my ipaq as a substitute for lookup function on cybook. It works really well, I installed happy tapping keyboard, so I can use my fingers instead of stilus. I set the backlight to turn off after 10 secs and the power to be turned off after 5 minutes, so I don't have to turn the ipaq on and off again so often while the power drain stays small. |

A funny idea occured to me, that none of this is actually off topic if you come to think of this thread as a surrogate for the official bookeen's blog. It's just a natural and direct consequence of bookeen giving us silent treatment. All this stuff, like what's going on with weltbild and the possibility of two fw versions should be posted on bookeens blog.
GeoffC, you should rename the thread Unofficial or Hearsay Bookeen Blog. ![]() |
