For those following this, based on a large number of survey respondents across a large number of different players, the w3c has made the following resolution:

RESOLUTION: We will not add HTML serialization to EPUB 3.4
Based on that issue's linked discussion, we may still see html serialization being allowed in some future epub major version or more likely in some completely new specification. As a result epub 3.4 should be reasonably compatible with epub 3.3 with few if any breaking changes. Hopefully just simpler with some of the more rarely used features deprecated.

Thank you to everyone who responded to their survey pro or con and kudos to the w3c for trying to actually listen to all of the epub constituents.

If there was any real sanity, ePub3 with be a lot simpler to code and without mutli-media.

You're like a broken record. No one is being forced to include multi-media in EPUB3s. People are free to create (and buy and read) multi-media-free ebooks. Give it a rest.
