Automatic Progress Sync without blocking reading

Is it possible to have the Progress Sync feature work automatically, but without blocking the reader when it starts? Right now, I turn on my reader, then it says it's connecting to wifi, but while it's doing that, I can't turn pages. In most cases I know I didn't read anywhere else, so I don't need to wait for it.

The kindle would take a few seconds to check for any newer reading location, and then prompt if I wanted to jump there. What I really want is for KOReader to automatically save my location every time I stop reading, but I don't care about fetching it when I start. I could trigger that automatically.

Is this possible somehow? Or would I need to edit the plugin code?
