Any color tablet with the same screen size as Kindle's Matcha?

LCD only.

No skinny, anemic, undernourished, fit-in-grandpa's-backpocket-sized screen.

(Circle back to the first sentence, please.)

Oh, 6″ in 4:3 is tricky. Hardly on a new one. I bought an ancient Samsung for €15 that size for Solitaire!
Even 7″ is rarer and most are 16:9 or 16:10.

An old iPad won't let you install apps. An old Android (even v 3!) will, from "archive" sites of free (not pirate) sw.

Nxtpaper is nicest OLED/LCD, but not remotely that form-factor at that size. Either chocolate bar sized or big tablets (16:10 to 3:2 aspect). Even 7″ on 16:9 or 16:10 is inferior to 4:3 6″

Something second hand. Does Peru have equivalent of UK & Ireland CEX? I find ebay tricky and postage / duties is a killer if not in EU.

Looks like slim pickings.

What size screen did the old GEM (Rocket?) have? (But it was not an LCD screen.) That brings back memories. I still have three in storage, but they probably no longer work.

An 8″ LCD with 16:9 aspect might be a similar width to the Matcha?

A second hand (sometimes there are still new ones on ebay) Nvidia Shield Tab
Size: 221 x 126 x 9.2 mm (8.70 x 4.96 x 0.36 in)
Weight 390 g (13.76 oz)

It has a stylus incorporated, and a graphic processor dedicated, old Android but imho still nice manufacture build (it's possible to install another OS but it requires opening it, jumping two connectors, and enable developer mode).
I kept mine original, it's long to boot, but otherwhise is pretty nice (imho).
Screen is 19:10, 8": https://www.gsmarena.com/nvidia_shield-6601.php.
Ps: it has a preinstalled drawing program, and there is a version of Krita for Android, too .

Kindle "Matcha", size: 6.2” x 4.3” x 0.32” (157.8 x 108.6 x 8.0 mm). Size represents total device measurements.

It's just an 8" 16:10 Android tablet. Plenty of those and 7" models can still be found new and recently manufactured.

Yes, the 8″ 16:9 or 16:10 are easy to get new. Longer than the 6″ Kindle, but a similar width.

Clarification: I'm not actually looking to buy one (if there is/was one), but rather to find out if such a tablet with those dimensions was ever built.

The problem (for me), is that most tablets are what I would describe as being long and skinny.

Such a discussion on tablet manufacturing trends might be useful and enlightening. Well, at least to me.

For example, have you not noticed the proliferation of smaller eink devices that mimic the form factor of cell phones? And yet, a few years ago, here in Peru, I saw some kind of tablet - an older device even then - from some unknown (to me) company that resembled in form factor a Kobo Mini or Sony Reader Pocket Edition 350. I turned on this strange device and verified that it was NOT an eink screen, but an LCD.

Yes, most are now 16:9 or 16:10, 7″ or 8″.

There were tablets 6" and 4:3. An iPad may have been the last. I had a Gemini long ago that was Android 4.x, 6″ and 4:3.

The marketing Depts thinking that Widescreen video is the most important content. The WS Video format has seriously degraded laptops for PDFs and other documents. A 15.5″ approx 1600 x 1200 (4:3) model in 2002 is better than a current 17" 1920 x 1080 model for A4 PDFs and many applications. The 1920 x 1080 is a video format and I watch almost all video on TVs (42" to 55") or on 84" screen projector.

There were LCD eReaders early on. Rocket Ebook Reader, Aluratek Libre, Etaco Jetbook. Some of them were even color. Some were 5" like the Etaco Jetbook. They weren't tablets and can't really do more than an original Kobo or Sony Reader.

6" Tablets haven't really been a thing. The iPad kicked off the current market with a 10" device and Samsung responded early with a 7" widescreen one. Prior tablets were basically PCs with touch screens.

All misleading!

Yes, 6" tablets were a thing. In the early days of Android they were the most common. I have even a Binatone Android v3.0 here. They have had a wide variety of OS.

PCs with touch screens were very rare till MS Surface, and after the first embryonic tablet devices.
Windows CE was released in the form of "Handheld PCs" in 1996 Those were not actually Tablet PCs!

First iPad was 2010. It was 3 years after the iPhone. It was late to the party.
The PC tablets with Windows never took off till MS Surface (see below)
There were Linux based and Palm OS devices that were sold as PDAs or PMPs that were essentially tablets before iPhone (and iPod doesn't count, nor was it a leader of music player design, it succeeded due to iTunes 99c per track)

There were Linux based PMP / tablets from about 2005 with 800 x 480 touch screens and icons.
Android 2 was 2009 (Android came out about a year after iOS, and had tablets before iPad. Bought in by Google).

Nokia 770 Internet Tablet was 2005
Nokia N810 Internet Tablet was 2007

PDAs and Smart phones (1998) served "tablet" niche.
PDAs started in 1984 with small screens and big keyboards, The Apple Newton (1993) and Palm Pilot (1997) were early tablets.

The concept was by Alan Kay (Dynabook 1972, based on 1968 ideas).

Linus Write-Top 1988 has handwriting recognition
GridPad in 1989. Then PenPoint OS in 1991. As a result MS did a Pen edition Window 3.1 released in 1992. Some products existed.

Microsoft Tablet PCs ran XP from 2003. A failure except in medical markets. The MS Surface with Windows 10 (now 11) was MS next serious attempt.

Tablet OS from Intel was Moblin in 2007
Maemo was Linux based from Nokia on 2005 and 2009 tablets
Merged as Meego 2010

The old Fire HD 6 from 2014 was 6" and 16:10. It wasn't 4:3 but I'm having a hard time thinking of any tablets other than MS Surface Duo 2 that use that, and an extra hard time for anything else down at 6" at all.
