ABBA--- I still am not over blaming ABBA for me getting a B on my German final in 11th grade. You see, a friend of mine was "in love" with this dumb boy who had brown eyes. And he didn't like her back. She was obsessed, and kept playing ABBA songs over and over. There was one (and I've totally and utterly blocked out which one it was) she specifically related to this kid. She sang it constantly. She played it on repeat in her car. It was all I heard for a month. It went through my mind constantly. It drove me *crazy.* So, come finals day, I couldn't get that song out of my head enough to conjugate verbs and whatever else I had to do. Therefore, a B. Coming from a straight A student, OH the shame....

Whenever I think of ABBA, it's the picture of the two girls from that movie doing their ad lib that pops into my head!! I wish I could say I was only 6 to explain my knowledge of ABBA. Unfortunately, I was old enough to know better! Although, I have to also admit that I loved disco! I know, I know, "Oh the humanity!!", but it was great fun and I was in college and you do crazy things when you get away from home for the first time. . . Don't you?

I wish I could relate to the Straight A thing, but my parents didn't stress grades very much. After seeing my dad's, the PE teacher/football coach, transcripts from college, I understood why! Thank goodness he could play football! Luckily for me, I'm one of those people who doesn't really need to study a lot to get away with B's. Imagine what I could have accomplished if I had cracked open a book once in awhile! Hmmm, President Kaz sounds pretty good!!

I grew up with two much older brothers who were into punk music, a dad who was into blues/motown, a mum who was into Black Sabatth/Free/The Small Faces and an aunt who lived with us who was a massive Commodores/Barry Manilow fan. My little sister's favourite music, being only little, was the sound of the hoover (vacuum cleaner) which she used to dance to

And I wonder why my musical tastes are so messed up

Oh, and I celebrate every day that I grew up in such a weird and musically diverse household.

in the 60's and 70's it was really common for european artists to make versions of their hit songs in different languages. i know that sheila for instance (french pop singer who i DO NOT recommend) recorded a lot of her songs in german (and english ?), which she had to learn phonetically, because she didn't speak german... so i wouldn't be suprised about abba.

tee hee ! when i was a child the stereo was my father's domain. he loves music and has, hm, how shall i say, very eclectic tastes. i finally got my own stereo when i was already around 12 or 13 i think and it was a revelation ; i hadn't even imagined up till then that i could actually have a choice about what i wanted to listen to ! i've made up for it since then though...

It misses the Tom Waits interventions, the Neil Diamond soundtrack to moving, the bedroom-plastered KISS years, the Nana Maskouri roadtrips, The Beatles weekends, the Hot Chocolate Saturday nights, the Dr. Hook Sunday mornings, the competing Quiet Riot Sunday mornings, and that was all before the Talking Heads period, when I'd come home from school to find mum shaking a denim-clad tailfeather in the kitchen to something from Little Creatures (probably the extended version of And She Was). All this intermingled with anything "current" during the journeys to Avalon. I can't listen to ELO or Meatloaf and others without thinking of sitting in the centre-backseat of the Holden Kingswood, probably 35C plus outside, 45C plus inside, and beach either on the forward or rearward horizon, depending on going or coming. Of course, there was the ever-present Rocky Horror Picture Show Soundtrack, which probably got played more than any other album in our house during my home years.

my best client just called me for our annual project. i was not counting on working for him this year because last year he told me there was a good chance he would not be running the project, and his replacement might not be in paris. it turns out that he is still running the project though so we'll be working together again. they are the only client i have who never complains about the price, pays me the correct tarif, and if the project goes longer than planned (it almost always does) they pay me the extra days i work. plus, we've been working together for 4 years already and we make a good team, and he's a very good person to work with, very organised, and although the project itself stresses him out quite a lot (deadlines and such) he is very nice with me, doesn't care what time i start in the morning because he knows i'll get the work done even if i have to stay late in the evening, doesn't look over my shoulder, and is a friendly guy.

given how slow business has been lately this is the best news i have had in months !!!! wow, suddenly i feel SO MUCH BETTER !!!!!!!!

i won't be starting the project until the end of june and i hope to get some other projects before then but this really takes a huge weight off my chest !
