I don't think the 'Hyperlink Preview' feature is working yet. Has anyone noticed this?

Have any brave souls with a jailbroken Kindle tried this new firmware yet?
If so did the jailbreak survive and do things like KOReader still work? |

I have only seen one or two reports on Kindle Modding Community’s discord that 5.18.6 only makes MTP hide the ads folder, but existing JB survived. Not sure what devices though

I have noticed that custom dictionaries that are placed in documents/dictionaries folder end up in the library and Your recent items list, but are not listed in dictionaries list in settings or when looking up a word. This just started happening with 5.18.6. Has anyone else experienced this?
Dictionaries added prior to the update work just fine. |

With 5.18.6, are sideloaded KF8/KFX eBooks a problem?

I've seen report on Reddit that 'older' comics (purchased from Comixology?) download as AZW3 and have rendering issues. I'd expect same if side loading AZW3 comics as well, but have not tried it myself.
Have not had issues with KFX side loaded, or reports of issues. |

I used a couple of AZW3 fixed layout books gathered when D&T via USB feature still existed.
I have verified that AZW3 comics have issues on Scribe Colorsoft and not 2022 Scribe, or Kindle Colorsoft. It appears to be some issue with refresh on the KSC, which is running 5.19.1. It displays as black over the entire image. If you force refresh (e.g. tap at top of page) then page displays as expected. In this case the title still only downloads as AZW3, and has the same issues. With another side loaded fixed layout AZW3 (mixed image and text) many pages just display as white, and I could not get page refresh to render them except in page flip mode. No problem on 2022 Scribe. This is or was available in KFX, and the download of that format behaves as expected. (initially page images didn't scale up, but closing and reopening book made that go away) I side loaded 'actual books' in KF8 and KFX, those are fine. But these use a completely different rendering system. So it's an issue with 5.19.1 likely, at least with KSC (we'll see if issue affects any others if and when they get updated). All books ITEM NOT AVAILABLE
Quote:
Reboot by holding the power switch down to trigger it. Nothing changed. Try again. Still nothing. Poke at settings and find library & storage management. Which showed exactly the same space available and space left that you got. Select 'manual removal' for clearing space. Nothing changes, the books are still showing up in the list, and are NOT AVAILABLE. Give up for the night but leave it charging overnight. in the morning straight off the charger: no change. all ITEM NOT AVAILABLE. Plug it into my computer to see what Windows thinks the used space and free space are. Pull up Calibre DISPLAY BOOKS ON DEVICE, which looks about right, meaning they are all there, and delete all books by a couple authors via Calibre. Check the Properties display in Windows. Hey, lookie there, it's normal. Used space 4.3GB, Free 22.9GB. Eject and now everything looks right and behaves the way it should. I suspect it was the plugging in to the computer that triggered whatever needed to happen to fix it. But I don't know. Still, for other people who might run into this, I've posted the steps I took that probably had something to do with bringing the functionality back to normal. I'm really glad it worked. The only alternative I could think of was doing a robocopy backup, reset to factory, reload via robocopy and then manually sort the bulk of the books because over a thousand are side-loaded which means Amazon doesn't track them. And the robocopy theoretically puts back the info, but the device is very slow to work through it. At least it has been on the few occasions I've done that before. |

im an idiot
hi all, i've just done something very idiotic, in factory resetting my kindle paperwhite 11th gen, and i have only now realized that the jailbreak i was using before (winterbreak) might no longer work, and that there is now no way of jailbreaking my kindle as of now. is there a solution for any of my numerous mistakes? i'm unsure if my reset might have broken something, as i did not follow the steps of renaming the otabinary before doing the reset. if there is no fix, im open to giving up my kindle to help in the jailbreaking effort.
