All Amazon purchases now double-spaced!!!
Every book I've purchased from Amazon is now displaying on my Kindle as double-spaced, meaning there's an empty line between each line of text.
Of course I checked my settings. Under Aa > Themes I made sure "Compact" was selected. Under Aa > Font > Spacing I made sure "Line Spacing" was set to minimum. I also tried restarting my Kindle. Nothing worked to restore single spacing. This is happening only to books I purchased from Amazon and downloaded directly via WiFi. None of my side-loaded books are effected. I have the latest Kindle Basic model (11th Generation, 2024) with the latest firmware (5.18.5.0.1). According to Google's AI Overview (which I realize might not be trustworthy), this issue is due to the most recent software update which was meant to allow users greater control over spacing (ironic). It described the steps to manually change your line spacing (which I already tried unsuccessfully), then added: "some users have noted that the new paragraph spacing options cannot be reduced to a single space." I'm one of those users. Anyone else on this board experiencing this problem? I plan to contact Kindle customer support tomorrow, but I suspect that will be a waste of time. EDIT: For clarity, I realize it's always been the case that certain Amazon purchases were automatically double-spaced based on the formatting choices of the publisher. That's not what I'm talking about. So please do not reply and tell me this is publisher-specific. Literally every Amazon book on my Kindle is now double-spaced with no option for single spacing. This includes books I've had for years and until now could be set to single spacing. I suspect Google AI's overview is correct and this is a software issue. UPDATE: I tried "Factory Reset". That solved the problem.

Interesting. Did you try Restart first?

Yes. As I explained in my original post, after I tried adjusting the settings my next step was to restart. That didn’t help.
Even though I eventually fixed the problem, I don’t regret having posted here. If anyone else has this problem and comes to this forum looking for assistance, hopefully they’ll find this thread. |
