I finished and loved The Spellcoats, the third book in Diana Wynne Jones’ Dalemark Quartet. I wonder why I don’t see DWJ mentioned in conversation with Gene Wolfe, or vice versa. Maybe I don’t hang out in the right bars. But DWJ plays many of the same games Wolfe does, especially in the Dalemark Quartet, and especially in The Spellcoats, which unlike most other DWJ I’ve read is an in-universe text and compares more directly to unreliable-narrator Wolfe texts like The Wizard Knight or Book of the New Sun. The books have different target audiences, but not so different, I think: people of all ages who can orient themselves without a fully shown hand—at most, a gentle tip of the cards. There are also fewer torture-maimings and murders in DWJ novels on average, I suppose. Though not so many fewer as one might think.

I think a fan scan would be your only option. I can't imagine King ever bringing the book back. Considering the reasons he had it pulled, I think Rage is gone for good.

I tend to agree - in part: It's too fresh in America's conscience, even after 26 years.

Yup, they've offered perk this for years. While there are a lot of months where nothing interests me, I've still gotten quite a few e-books this way.

Yes, I'm not sure I've ever actually read one, but I usually try to grab the free book when I'm on Prime, at least. If there's nothing obvious (ie. no SF/F) I wait until later in the month when a few reviews have come in. (Sadly no T Kingfisher in the UK this month.)

Sadly still £1.99 each at Amazon UK. I got the Scalzi story free as a First Read books. The others look interesting, but I'm not paying £1.99 for a short story.

£1.99 for all six would be tempting.

Yup, the Time Traveler stories can be borrowed through either Kindle Unlimited or Prime Reading.
