Marvin Replacement?

I bought a new iPhone 17 and I am so regretting it as I can't install Marvin on it. I was able to install it on my last phone using iMazing but it isn't working this time.

Is there any other reader that integrates seamlessly with Dropbox and allows you to turn pages by simply tapping instead of swiping?

I bought MapleReader years ago and have always disliked it. It seems unduly complicated and the instructions to download books from dropbox are cumbersome. With Marvin I just searched on the title and my books popped right up. With the MapleReader system I have to drill down into each individual folder to find my books. It would take me many hours to put my books into the program.

My ebook app needs are pretty simple. I'm not that fussy about formatting as long as I can change the font and minimize the margins. All I really want is to be able to easily retrieve my books from my dropbox and to tap to turn the pages.

I, too, miss Marvin. I read on my iPad using the MapleRead CE and Kindle apps. Both of these will meet your requirements of single tap, margins and fonts.
May I suggest the app File Browser:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/filebr...er/id364738545

It will connect to Dropbox, GoogleDrive and several other cloud services. Then using the Share option from the list of files you can send the book directly to your reader. This app will also play music and videos. Best utility on my device. As I remember about $10 one-)time fee.

Apple's files app that is included with iOS/iPadOS will integrate with Drive and Dropbox, etc. It used to be a sad little app, but it is capable now. One could also install the Dropbox app and share from that to the ereader app. Drive will allow this too. They have good search functions too, so you need not poke around to find a given file. The files app, not so good at search.

I bought the app to try and get this to work, but I can't figure out how to connect it to MapleRead. Can you explain this to me like I'm 5? Thank you.

I take it you have connected to the cloud (Dropbox for instance) then as you view the list of books, click the little 3 dots to the right of the book’s name and select Share from the menu that pops up. You may then have to scroll (left-right) the list of apps that appears and, perhaps, even go to the end of the list and choose More to see the MapleRead app. Then just touch that app and FileBrowser will send the file to MapleRead and the app will open with the book installed. Hope this helps.

That list of apps that pops up can be edited to make it easy to find the ones you use most - Another post. Let me know if there are still problems.

Thank you. You are my hero for the day. I'm still not happy about losing Marvin but at least I can access my books.

I'm still disappointed that I can't search by book title like Marvin allowed me, but at least if I know the author I can find my books.

It is too slow to be useful with a large library. I have no idea how Marvin was able to search all my subfolders so quickly and this program has been searching so far for 5 minutes and is still in authors that being with "A". It is much quicker to know the author name.

Maybe because Marvin ignored everything that wasn't an epub the searches were faster, but this is pretty painful and useless. I have 7200 books in my library but it's much more than 7200 files since they all have cover images and many are also in mobi/azw format from when I was using a kindle.

Just did a search on my iPad Air. 67 folders and sub-folders, 7688 epub files, took about 5 seconds.

I think I understand, you were doing the search of files in the cloud, I was doing the search of file on my iPad.

Yes, it's the cloud search that dies. I typed "orchid" in the search because I know I have Rex Stout's Black Orchid there and it never found it. After an hour I gave up and quit the app. Marvin would have an initial period, about 30 seconds, to load the dropbox, and then on search things would pop up instantly.

The app spends forever just searching the _catalog folder calibre creates and I don't know how to exclude this from the search.

Sorry, solution beyond me. I have all my epubs in a folder within FB on my iPad and send them to MapleRead or Kindle when I want to read them. I upload from computer to cloud and from there to iPad and FB.

I was still bemoaning the loss of Stanza until I discovered Yomu. And it seems to work well with Calibre and Dropbox (which is how I access my Calibre library). There are quite a lot of changes you can make to the interface - the usual stuff.. and I only discovered this morning that you can sync between devices via iCloud. Its turned off by default but it works pretty well.

I did Use Marvin for a while, and a variety of others, but Yomu has got me caught for now. PLus, it seems to be in constant development. I decided to pay for pro… definitely worth it to me.

How well does Yomu respect the CSS? Does it allow side loaded fonts?
