Instead of The Blair Witch Project my sister and I watched the first episode of It: Welcome to Derry. I did like it on it's own, but as part of the Pennywise universe it's lacking a bit IMHO. The first episode immediately went full horror. Most Stephen King stories take their time to build up and psychological horror is as important as gore, if not more so. Also, in the book Pennywise takes on the form of something the individual kid is scared of; a mummy or scary bird from a movie, drowned corpses, blood spraying from the sink, missing kids talking through the drains. Even the Pennywise persona is a disguise (a lot of people are scared of clowns). In this first episode we didn't see the Pennywise avatar but it manifested itself into something grotesque, which all kids saw. Except for voices and a finger from the drains they never experienced their individual fears. The second episode will be released on Friday instead of Sunday, so we'll see how the story progresses. I'm planning to watch The Blair Witch Project during my cross stitch session later today. |

Tonight my movie watching is either going to be Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning, Sound of Music the new 4K edition, and/or the live action How to Train Your Dragon. I'm also going to make some popcorn with butter and cheese. I'm trying to figure out what movie to watch on Halloween. I'm thinking maybe Halloween the original version. But if anyone has a suggestion, please let me know. It can be on Netflix US, UK, CA, AU as I have a VPN. Disney+ same regions, Paramount+ CA, AU, or UK (borrowing a login but it won't access the US), Apple TV, or Peacock TV. Last edited by JSWolf; 10-28-2025 at 05:17 AM. |

First time in a long time I've been tempted to throw something at the TV. Kathryn Bigelow's professed reason for doing what she did is no excuse for doing what she did. The only motivation I feel after watching House of Dynamite is to avoid projects she's associated with in the future. Purposefully pissing people off for attention is lazy writing.

Yesterday, during my cross stitch session, I watched The Blair Witch Project, another favourite of mine. I have the box set with the sequel, so I might watch that soon too (if even I know it's not a good movie). I didn't watch anything during the evening; today we have general elections and in the evening we watched the final debates. Today's viewing will be during the day, too (I expect we'll be watching the results of the elections tonight). I've chosen The Cabin in the Woods, not a crappy horror this time but a good one. Today my secondhand movie haul should arrive. I'll continue watching horror after Halloween because I've got a bunch more I want to watch now I've gotten going. |

I just had my annual viewing of The Crow (1994). A while ago I got the 30th anniversary 4K UHD BluRay version, which was obviously digitally remastered. It looks great, very sharp. However, I did miss the grainy quality, it somehow suited the movie. Next year I might just watch my non-remastered DVD. Tomorrow I might watch Until Dawn, but I haven't decided yet. |

Last night I watched the movie The Substance. It was excellent. One of the best horror movies in a long time.

I went back and read the original graphic novel last year, and it was a slog. Nothing but bog-standard revenge plot wrapped in teenage angst and feigned profundity. | |
