Now that I've got more family and friends joining the Kobo ecosystem...I really wish they'd make it easier to just gift books.

If I see a book I think my niece would like, I would like the option to just buy it and have it sent to her email address to redeem, rather than having to send her a giftcard and say, "Here's monies, go redeem them to your account and buy this book while it's on sale, quick!"

No easy way to share wishlist, either. Compare to Steam.

But the Amazon system won't even work across the Border in Ireland. Irish users have to use Amazon UK for Kindle, but the "gift" ebook can only be sent to other Kindle users in Ireland (the Nation, not the bit in the UK), not in the UK.

There is a similar issue since Irish pound split from Sterling on the British Isles wide "Book token" system. You can only use the token in the country of the shop, but if you go online you can buy a Book Token for Irish redemption, or UK redemption (from same org) and it doesn't matter where you live or what currency you credit card is. The split is because the token has either UK Sterling or the euro value and they've never figured how to do one with both currencies.

Amazon is thus more broken than the book tokens.

Also for obvious reasons (ebay) Amazon won't take PayPal, but Kobo does take PayPal.

Amazon gift cards can be bought (in the past) by anyone, anywhere, but could only be redeemed on the Marketplace where they were bought. However after Irish Marketplace launched I could not find UK Marketplace gift cards, thus to gift someone in UK an ebook or other item on Amazon for me in Ireland now apparently can't be done. I'd have to send them money via IBAN (which is cheaper than PayPal and free in EU).

Ugh, preferred backup program was discontinued with still outstanding bugs. I dislike it, but FreeFileSync seems the best option.
