There's an option in Calibre to do just that, it's located under "Add books".

I ended up buying a kindle matcha for just my kindle books now.
Ones I cannot buy from.kobo to add to my Kobo clara colour. To keep them separate Amazon loses out doesn't it as always check books I want on kobo now first instead of buying from amazon. It's a pain but means I will always have them ( if kobo sells them that is) |

Back in March, I tested the process for importing a kfx file from my Kindle device into Calibre, and then converting it to epub. I installed the kfx plugin (2.26.2) and deDRM plugin (10.0.9 beta). It worked perfectly.
However, I just tried again and this time the process failed. The file I imported into Calibre is still showing as a kfx-zip protected by DRM. Is there a newer version of the deDRM plugin I should be using? Or did Amazon harden kfx files to defeat this workaround? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. All books released after April 2025 have hardened drm. There are 2 options:
1. Have a Kindle that doesn't receive updates anymore. E.g. Oasis 3, or even older Kindles like the Kindle 4 Touch / Kindle 4 non-touch. 2. Only the latest firmware has the hardened DRM. You can have a newer Kindle that doesn't have the latest update, install jailbreak and use the ota renamer plugin to prevent updates. 3. Use this process, if you run a x86 PC. |

To make sure I understand, is it only books published after April 2025 and loaded onto a newer device that are uncrackable? Will the process still work for books released prior to April 2025, even if they're loaded on a newer device? I apologize if I'm a bit behind on the news. Once Amazon got rid of D&T I swore I'd never buy another ebook from them. Consequently, I hadn't kept up with the latest DRM news or bothered testing the process again. It's only because there's a new Amazon exclusive book I wanted that I broke down and partonized them again. |

Books (including the ones published after April 2025) can still be deDRMed via Kindles without that update. |

The short version of what and how (AFAIK):
1. Any Amazon ebook that can be loaded onto a eink Kindle running firmware earlier than 5.18.5 can be transferred from that Kindle to Calibre, and--using plugins--DRMed and converted to other formats. Note that a few ebooks can not be downloaded to an eink Kindle. (The Amazon entry for the book will tell you) 2. Any Amazon ebook with a "publication date" earlier than April 22, 2025 can be downloaded on a Windows PC using Kindle for PC 2.4 and then transferred to Calibre and DeDRMed and converted using the same plug-ins. 3. Any ebook can be loaded on Windows Kindle for PC 2.8 and then DeDRMed using a complex and slow method |

Amazon has never blocked any Kindle model from using their account services. All they've done is remove store access on devices that are too old for modern security standards, likely to comply with PCI DSS or other financial security laws.

There was a rumor here that they're planning to cut off old Kindles at some point, however.

DXG still works here on EDGE (GSM 2G) though no 3G. Gets ebook from Amazon.
