Amazon and DRM changes

Ok, I was wrong. I thought something had changed with Kendal and there DRM. NOPE. Epubor removed the drm like it was supposed to. It was user error on my part. OOPS!!

Now I can start buying books again. I refused to buy until I could remove DRM and read them on my phone with Moon reader pro.

It's Kindle, not Kendal.

There are other places to buy books from. Amazon is not the only bookseller in the world.

Maybe, but they provide a service.
While I don't use Epubor, I have tried it. It may very well just automate the SATS method, but that itself is worth the cost to some.

As far as I know, SATS has not made any request to restrict the use of the method.

By the way, any publication of an out-of-copyright text is exactly the same story: the publisher has taken someone else's work, packaged it conveniently, and sold it.

What bothers me is the lack of attribution. Making use of other's work and pretending that it is their own.

That would be my main beef as well. From a licensing standpoint, the tools don't really specify GPL, MIT, or BSD (not mention that it's pretty hard for anonymous user names to claim any sort of enforceable copyright), so it's unclear whether attribution is even required.

The bottom line is that it's pretty hard for me to get up in arms about open-source software being exploited for profit when there's no formal entity releasing it under a clear license arrangement. If you want to control it; claim it (as a legal entity) under clear licensing terms.

I wouldn't do such a thing myself (without thanks & attribution), but that's just from a personal principles standpoint.

Epubor's use of Calibre code without attribution and/or making source code available (not to mention for commercial profit) would be a clear violation of Calibre's GPLv3 licensing, but Apprentice Alf and NoDRm are not entities that can claim copyright protection to my knowledge.

Kandel is a town in Germany. It has nothing to do with DRM.

If you use that software which I will not mention, you won't get any help here are they are just thieves for most of the code they sell, they stole.

The Poster wrote Kendal, which is in England.

Kendal is a historic market town with a vibrant arts and culture scene, and easy access to the Lake District.

It's also the Kendal mint cake, a famous sweet, mint flavoured bar used as emergency rations.

I'm sure many do know. But for people who are not technically minded it's just simpler to use Epubor, particularly now, when simple methods for Kindle books have been mostly eliminated by Amazon.
