AZW files turning into MOBI by DeDRM

When I import some azw files from Kindle to the Calibre Library with the DeDRM plugin, they automatically turn into mobi files. Is it supposed to be like this or have I omitted some setting that would enable me to keep the original file format?

azw files can be mobi AKA kF7 with DRM, i.e. a Mobipocket format.
The KF8 files, which are optionally encrypted have .azw3 file endings.

KFX files are .kfx on eink ereaders, but might be different on an app. They can be reflowable or fixed layout.

There are several fixed layout versions of PDF that are in Amazon wrappers as well as fixed layout KFX.

There are also topaz and actual PDF files on eink Kindles

The reason this is si because they are Mobi. eBooks created with Kindle Create end up as Mobi. They can also be KFX when converted by Amazon.
