Jayne Ann Krentz's The Night Island (The Lost Night Files #2) on sale for $1.99.

Spoiler:
The disappearance of a mysterious informant leads two people desperate for answers to an island of deadly deception in this new novel in the Lost Night Files trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Jayne Ann Krentz.

Talia March, Pallas Llewellyn, and Amelia Rivers, bonded by a night none of them can remember, are dedicated to uncovering the mystery of what really happened to them months ago—an experience that amplified innate psychic abilities in each of them. The women suspect they were test subjects years earlier, and that there are more people like them—all they have to do is find the list of others who took that same test. When Talia follows up on a lead from Phoebe, a fan of the trio’s podcast, she discovers that the informant has vanished.

Talia isn’t the only one looking for Phoebe, however. Luke Rand, a hunted and haunted man who is chasing the same list that Talia is after, also shows up at the meeting place. It’s clear he has his own agenda, and they are instantly suspicious of each other. But when a killer begins to stalk them, they realize they have to join forces to find Phoebe and the list.

The rocky investigation leads Talia and Luke to a rustic, remote retreat on Night Island in the Pacific Northwest, where the Unplugged Experience promises to rejuvenate guests. Upon their arrival, Talia and Luke discover they are quite literally cut off from the outside world when none of their high-tech devices work on the island. It soon becomes clear that Phoebe is not the first person to disappear into the strange gardens that surround the Unplugged Experience retreat. And then the first mysterious death occurs. . . .

Well, I still haven't read A Fate Inked in Blood, but the next book in the series, A Curse Carved in Bone, is on sale at Kindle UK for £1.99. It's part of the Kindle UK Daily Deal, where it's just after midnight. So it will probably drop in price in a few hours at Kobo UK as well. Or you can use the Kobo price match, but myself, I find it's just easier to wait a few hours, rather than the hassle of doing the screenshots (in case something goes wrong), and filling out the form for the Kobo price match, and paying attention to make sure I get the match. But, of course, YMMV.

Spoiler:
Quote:
BOUND TO A DARK DESTINY, FREYA MUST WEAVE A NEW FATE.
A shield maiden fights to break the shackles of prophecy - and to overcome betrayal of the man who broke her heart - in this searing conclusion to the Norse-inspired fantasy romance duology that began with the No. 1 Sunday Times bestselling A Fate Inked in Blood.

With the secret of her divine heritage revealed, Freya finds herself on a path that could see thousands of lives lost to the magic in her blood. Desperate to avoid this dark fate, she risks an alliance with Skaland's greatest enemy to seek answers from the seer who foretold her future - the same seer who sent Bjorn to kill her.

While Freya still seethes with rage over Bjorn's betrayal, the blood oaths that bind her demand that she keep him close as she hunts for a way to avert the looming war. Her magic draws her to the front lines of an old enmity, embroiling her with Nordeland's Unfated - children of the gods who serve the king she was raised to fear. The same king who, unlike Bjorn, is now willing to fight at her back. For despite the desire that burns hot between Bjorn and Freya, his growing distrust of her chosen path threatens to drag them further apart.

As war approaches, gods and mortals must choose their weapons. Yet the fiercest battle will be the one Freya wages within herself. With the magic of two goddesses burning in her veins, she must weave the threads of destiny to decide her own fate:

Will she be the shield that protects her people or the curse that destroys them?

I suspect I'll have to add this to my wife's to be purchased list.
As the late davidfor phrased it, happy wife, happy life.

Inheritance (The Lost Bride Trilogy #1) by Nora Roberts is on sale for $2.99 for the month of October.

Spoiler:
Inheritance is the first in The Lost Bride Trilogy by #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts—a tale of tragedies, loves found and lost, and a family haunted for generations.

1806: Astrid Poole sits in her bridal clothes, overwhelmed with happiness. But before her marriage can be consummated, she is murdered, and the circle of gold torn from her finger. Her last words are a promise to Collin never to leave him…

Graphic designer Sonya MacTavish is stunned to learn that her late father had a twin he never knew about—and that her newly discovered uncle, Collin Poole, has left her almost everything he owned, including a majestic Victorian house on the Maine coast, which the will stipulates she must live in it for at least three years. Her engagement recently broken, she sets off to find out why the boys were separated at birth—and why it was all kept secret until a genealogy website brought it to light.

Trey, the young lawyer who greets her at the sprawling clifftop manor, notes Sonya’s unease—and acknowledges that yes, the place is haunted…but just a little. Sure enough, Sonya finds objects moved and music playing out of nowhere. She sees a painting by her father inexplicably hanging in her deceased uncle’s office, and a portrait of a woman named Astrid, whom the lawyer refers to as “the first lost bride.” It’s becoming clear that Sonya has inherited far more than a house. She has inherited a centuries-old curse, and a puzzle to be solved if there is any hope of breaking it…

Another yay for dust bunnies. Speaking of upcoming books, is it worth it pricewise to do preorder?

I had noticed that the little icon prompting me to sign in wasn't working, but hadn't had time to look into it. (Icons are notoriously finicky and I had only bought a couple of sale books at Kobo in the last few days.)

Just now, I went and looked at the T&Cs for Kobo, and sure enough, in the exclusions, it says just what @library addict says below. And I haven't gotten any Cash Back on Kobo books since 29 Sept.

I'm going to add this to the Kobo thread, with a screen shot.

Oh, and I'm in the US...

Authors have said in the past that preorder numbers do help them.

I personally don't often pre-order digital editions as they aren't always available right at midnight with Kobo or Google Play. And eagerly awaited books would be the ones I'd want to pre-order. Then again, sometimes with Kobo they release books at 11pm on Monday so one never knows.

I have pre-ordered hardcovers multiple times with the B&N 25% off sale.

I do think it can be worth it if there's a pre-order sale for digital books. Every dollar saved is a dollar that can go toward more books!

I posted there that I'd emailed them to verify if it was temporary for the holidays, but it's a permanent change. At least for the US.

It wasn't much, but the 2% added up over time plus it was occasionally 10% or 15% or even 20% so I am sorry to see it go.

We understand your question about the Kobo Cash Back terms. Unfortunately, the exclusion of eBooks and Audiobooks from Cash Back is a permanent change, not a temporary holiday adjustment. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please remember that all Cash Back offers and terms are subject to change at any time.
