Clara HD Network Error, even though network is fine

I have a strange problem. 2 Clara HDs. One completely normal and another with nickelmenu. They are both on the same wifi. I can search the store for books, look at recommendations etc. But a lot of the time it will just say

"/!\ Network Error" Oops, something happened to your internet connection. Please check your connection and try again.

You can see in this picture, that recommendations loaded just fine. often I can tap on a book for more info but then that error comes up.

The network is strong. I'm mere feet from the router.
