Are those alt+F1-5 shortcuts limited to that particular menu? I'm trying to figure out if expanding from 5 to 9 would affect users who may have already made use of alt+F6-9 for other purposes in Sigil.

Its Alt+F to open the File drop down menu and then 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 - two key strokes - i.e. Alt+F,3 opens the third title. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 09-30-2025 at 08:19 PM. |

Once again it amazes me on how many different ways our users use Sigil (and Calibre).
I some times open a Calibre viewer (or content server page) for reference or a simple copy and paste into Sigil. Getting the results we want, is our goal. Sometimes MR members have a more efficient way (or not). These forums allow exposure to how other do e-book edit tasks. That allows CHOICES ![]() |

For the record: the code to have both the HeadingChange and CaseChange QToolButtons remember their last used action has been pushed to GitHub. It will be included in the next release (and is available for those who compile their own Sigil versions).

Hide file extensions in Book Browser
This is a minor feature, but it would ease working with Sigil for me. Basically, it would be the possibility (via an option) to hide ".xhtml" and maybe any other file extension in the Book Browser. Hovering over a file would show the full name with the extension in the tooltip, though.
Having the file extensions displayed in the Book Browser make it harder for me to read the actual important part of the name. It's like a clutter because it does not really add new information (it's the same text string ".xhtml" repeated over and over again). |

Would it be possible for the Mac versions of Sigil to show Mac keyboard shortcuts in the Preferences window?
When I'm using the MacBook, at present all shortcuts show Ctrl, Alt and the Ctrl is not the Mac control key. The current display of shortcuts is misleading and unusable as presented. |

And it is explained why Qt decided to make that change for Mac users (see the user guide) so that common shortcut key sequences exist and are usable cross platform (ie think copy and paste so that Command+C works as Ctrl+C, etc). It has been that way since the beginning of Sigil and will not change. Sigil is a cross platform app not just a Mac app.
Sigil will ignore Mac-only nonsense like constantly changing icons and shortcuts and other poor choices early Apple designers made to standardize to cross-platform code with the fewest ifdefs possible. Last edited by KevinH; 10-02-2025 at 09:27 AM. |

Okay, I have spent a few full days trying to come up with a way to make the Automation work more like Plugins with a top level Automation menu that allows any name you want for the automation files.
This has been a really invasive change since it touches the MainWindow interface in so many places and automation files must be allowed to have any unique identifiers as long as they fit the pattern: "automate" + identifier_string + ".txt" so that all of this remains backwards compatible with our previous version of automations lists. These screen caps show the identifiers as "01" and "02" but of course the user gets to set those (but it will start this way for backwards compatibility since only automate 01, 02 and/or 03 can exist. Here are some screenshots showing the new top menu, the dynamically created run and edit menus under the Automation top menu. With these changes the Automation toolbar icons will be treated just like run plugins buttons with no delay or pull down menus. Please give these a look. If people like this degree of change and think automation lists are important enough to need this type of treatment please let us know in this thread. If there is general agreement, I will keep working on it. Otherwise please suggest a smaller/simpler interface that people can live with. Last edited by KevinH; Yesterday at 06:52 PM. |

Spell check inside img alt attribute
Image descriptions inside <img> tag alt attribute in accessible EPUBs can be lengthy and thus contain spelling mistakes. The ability to check the spelling of the text inside the alt attribute would be really helpful. Would it be possible to do that?

Honestly, spellchecking img alt text might be better suited to a plugin that does exactly and only that. Such a plugin could also spellcheck metadata alt values as well. Let me think about it. Last edited by KevinH; Yesterday at 04:02 PM. |
