Mobipocket's mobi DRM was cracked long ago. That's why there are azw encrypted mobi on Kindle, but that also was cracked long ago. Also Mobipocket was #1 by long lead when Amazon bought them in 2005. Mobipocket had various formats before mobi that were even more primitive, like pdb.

It's the other formats that hardly sold and especially if needed proprietary hardware that are almost non-existent.

I uploaded a zip of Adobe Acrobat eBook Reader (originally Glassbook Reader) and Microsoft Reader into to the IA several months ago, it got deleted and now it's back again mostly for archival/historical purposes as it did previously.

Here - https://archive.org/details/geronimo...oftware_202508

The file extensions for the Geronimo Stilton eBooks (EBX and LIT) could work very well. Note that you need to install them with extra caution.

That won't help if the books have DRM.

You didn't know this but it was actually made also for eBooks with DRM! Just read the manual for Adobe Acrobat eBook Reader available in the zip file.

I know, but are the DRM servers for 20-year-old DRM still functional? Unlikely. Microsoft LIT DRM certainly isn't readable now. And I don't think Glassbook DRM is either.

Let's hope it will!

Someone recommended me a site which could be having the eBooks we have been looking for more than a year!

wwe.calibre-ebook.com

Is it possible the eBooks are lurking there or not? We don't know yet till we explore.

Calibre is an ebook management software, not a book collection site. There are no books there.

If the eBooks have LIT DRM, then there is no way they can be broken because you need the key and with the servers gone, you cannot get the key. Plus, the key is tied to the account for the DRM.

If I'm right, I think Glassbooks was a DRM used on older Windows phones and if that's the case, any eBooks with it's DRM are no longer able to be read.

That post just says that calibre can read most ebook formats.

As someone who has used Calibre for 14 years, I know perfectly well what is and isn't on that website. No books.

Sigh!

Oh, Thanks for telling me about all this. I also have strange recurring memories of reading those eBooks somewhere which is also why I joined this subreddit. I can remember a Chinese and a Spanish translation appearing on foreign versions of the Geronimo Stilton site in around 2016-2020. What do you think could have happened?

Also, apparently Microsoft's Italian sector distributed free extracts of each chapter of both eBooks (no DRM) in one source we found:

https://www.reddit.com/r/CyberReadAr...match_made_in/

Are these eBooks really lost? I still have telltale signs on some foreign language variants of the Geronimo Stilton website that we need to investigate further.
