@vamarci Why would you do it like that when you can simply:

1) Make sure you have the hotfix (use v2.2.1 because the lastest [v2. 2.3] and previous to lastest version have bug with scriptlets and scanning newly added books) installed BEFORE you update the firmware.

2) install new firmware ( if you used "renameotabin" to block firmware OTA download undo that change.)

3) after firmware install finished do 2 more restarts, then reinstall the hotfix again, then do 2 more restarts just in case.
4) reinstall KUAL. Reapply "renameotabin" to stop future firmware updates.

In short: once you've jailbreaked in 98% of firmware updates you don't need to re-do the jailbreak steps, if you made sure to keep the hotfix up-to-date before doing firmware updates you just reinstall hotfix, KUAL and whatever else you were using and that's it.

That's said "yellow band" is 99% certain a hardware issues not a software / firmware issue
.

Thanks for your response and advice! I have a couple of questions to clarify:
- How can I know which version of the hotfix I have currently installed?
- Where can I find the previous versions of the hotfix? on the kindlemodding.org I can't see version numbers mentioned for the hotfix
- If I already have the hotfix installed, does it cause a problem to install it again? Or I can just run it like I did when I was jailbreaking?
- What you have described about firmware updates also holds for the versions which you cannot jailbreak with the Winterbreak? So once it's jailbroken with Winterbreak, I can go over the version numbers that don't work with Winterbreak pre-jailbreak?

(sry for the many question, wanna makes sure I don't brick the kindle)

Can't edit the original post but an updated version with these offsets is available on the KMC Github. Wiki is in the process of being updated.

Special Offers Activation

You can subscribe a device to Special Offers via your Amazon account Manage Your Content and Devices page. However, to take them back off later you'll have to pay the fee. IMO, it's not worth paying that to remove them after the jailbreak.
Not sure if this is available for all countries, I've been checking my Amazon Page "Manage your Content and Devices" and I have no way to activate the Special Offers. I also checked in the Kindle itself and doesn't seem to be available. I'm in Canada and not sure if that's a factor here.

Without the adverts, you cannot use the jailbreak.

Hi everybody! I wanted to report that, as of October 4th, manually activating ads for a 1st gen Kindle Scribe with OFW 5.18.5.01 does nothing: ads are not being downloaded, and the new option that should be appearing on my Settings is not there.

Any input on this matter will be appreciated.

Have you completed the process?
Using the hotfix and other Winterbreak files?

UPDATE: IT IS POSSIBLE TO GET ADS AND DO ADBREAK ON A KINDLE SCRIBE, AS OF OFW 5.18.5.0.1

For some reason, if your kindle account is registered to amazon.com, you won't get ads even if you activate them. However, it's different if your account is registered to amazon.fr (for some unknown reason), and after getting your ads you can do Adbreak as usual.

What I did was go to amazon.com and change my region and payment info to an address in France; after that, go to the "Devices" tab, and then I had a new option to migrate your account to Kindle France. After that, your devices will show up in amazon.fr instead of amazon.com. Just to be sure, I also changed my Scribe default language to French. I reset, and..

Voilà!

The option to have ads now appear on the settings. After that, I did the same process than @lucagoc described previously on this thread.

I think this is an interesting option for Colorsoft users to try, as I understand that model has a similar problem showing ads. I don't know why this happens, but I know have Koreader on my Scribe.

Excellent! I use similar method and jailbreak scribe.
Small difference: I prefer use a temporary FR account

1. Factory reset
2. Create a temporary FR account and log in
3. Transfer one book to device. The special offer is enabled default in FR, but it seems that the AD system needs one book to activate
4. Same jailbreak process
5. Deregister device and log in original account
6. Rebuild KUAL booklet(copy Update_KUALBooklet_*_install.bin to mrpackages and, type ;log mrpi again)

So I successfully used AdBreak to jailbreak my Paperwhite 11. My device did not have ads, so I turned on the “special offers” option on my Amazon account, connected my kindle to wifi briefly so it could download some ads, and carried out the jailbreak.

It worked, and I went on and installed the hotfix, renameotabin, kual and koreader. (The step by step directions on the kindlemodding wiki, btw, are very useful)

My question is this: now that I’ve got it all set up, what happens if I go back to my Amazon account and turn the special offers option back off again? Will doing that break my jailbreak?

No, the jailbreak will remain - at least, it did for me, having followed the same process as you.

Can't install Update_KUALBooklet_HDRepack Kindle Paperwhite 10 5.18.1

I placed it correctly in the mrpackages folder, after typing ;log mrpi ,the Kindle doesn't find anything. Tried placing the bin in the root folder to update manually, but the Kindle also doesn't find the update.
