Personally I've read A4 PDFs on 8" readers, read color comics on 7" readers.
Even with a magnifying glass that's impossible for loads of content. The pixels aren't there to have the text.

It's not about eyesight and preferences, but universal content.

Some A4 content and some color comics even works on 6", most doesn't work on 8".

No, I just wondered how it's supposed to work (e.g. local, or Amazon server generated). Even if it was "backported" like azw3 and KFX was, I presume it could be ignored or even turned off.

There's the same number of pixels on a 7.8" 300 DPI device as the 10.3" Kobo Elipsa. There's more pixels on a 300 DPI 6" eReader than the original 10" iPad or Kindle DX.

Here's a PDF of US letter paper displaying various text sizes. Even the 6pt text is clearly readable to me on a 7" Kobo Libra Color without zoom which is the smallest and lowest resolution eReader I still have. It's not the most comfortable read but it is legible.

I don't know about you, but I don't usually read content with even 6 pt fonts! Maybe the copyright info is that small.

The naming scheme for the Kindles has always been quite confusing and a bit stupid ever since they started this "generation" nonsense. But they somehow managed to make it even worse...

Amazon is now essentialy using two different definitions for the word "generation".

Both the basic Kindle and the Paperwhite still use the old definition refering to an overall platform / family of Kindles. For example the current Paperwhite is NOT called "Paperwhite 6th generation", because it is the 6th version of Paperwhite they ever made. No, instead it is called "Paperwhite 12th generation", because it belongs to the 12th generation of Kindle devices.

The Scribe and Colorsoft however have started to use a new definition of "generation", now refering to the device itself. They are called "1st generation", because they are the first version of themself, not because they belong to the very first generation of Kindle ever created in 2007...

They are kind of trying to mitigate this chaos a bit by also adding the release year now, but I wish they would just go back to numbering their devices like they did in the beginning.

And the Sage is better for some PDFs than any older eink except maybe the Scribe. I nearly bought a Scribe and didn't because of the stupid KFX walled garden on PDF annotation and secondly it's MTP. That was before D&T ended.

I agreed some A4 do work, even on 6" screens. But it's delusional to claim even the majority of magazines and A4 work on eink 7.8", 8" and 10.3". I still have all three of those those sizes.

I read novels on eink, mostly 8", but 4:3 at 5", 6, 6.8, 7 and 7.8 inch work well too. I have or have had all of those in eink. I found the DXG, Elipsa, reMarkable, Nxtpaper 11 and Nxtpaper 14 too awkward for reading regular reflowable novels. The DXG was bought in an Amazon International bargain sale for PDFs, and it's the worst ereader I ever bought, no matter what you use it for. The K3 is better for novels and even the PW3 is better for PDFs than the DXG. I nearly bought a Sony DPT 13.x" ink tablet and later a higher resolution Fujitsu version. I'm very glad I didn't.

EDIT
The 14.25" TCL NxtPaper 14 is the first portable device I've had or seen that works for all magasines, scanned books and A4. The Nxtpaper 11 (10.9") is better than Sage for those but still not good enough.

I've also compared the current 10" approx iPad, Sage, Elipsa and Nxtpaper 11 side by side. The Sage was best if the document suited it, otherwise the Nxtpaper 11 was better. The Nxtpaper 14 is far better than Nxtpaper 11, except for notes. The Sage is best for reflowable mono novels. The iPad was worst due to shine.

No frontlight? Why, that's a technological breakthrough!

What is "works all magasines [sic], scanned books and A4"? Works for you? Because I can do (and have done) that on a 7.8" 300 DPI BW reader.* Yes, physically the pixels are there as showed with the example in my last post. Again, just because something doesn't work for YOU, doesn't mean it can't for other people.

*Barring things that don't work in greyscale.

And for colour I'd be okay with an 8" tablet like the iPad mini. The Nxtpaper 14 is not particularly high resolution at 2400x1600 for a 14.25" tablet. The 11" base model iPad has more pixels, the mini is pretty close.
