Aura H2O USB-Connection issue

My Kobo Aura H2O has an issue with ths (micro)USB-port.
It can be charged by USB-Connection with no issue.

Data transfer is only possible, when I attach the USB-cable BEFORE I start the reader. The window appears with the option to connect the reader with the computer.

This is the only way to get a working USB-Data-Connection. I always have to switch off the reader, then attach the USB-Cable to the reader and my computer and the turn on the reader.

So, the hardware seems to be ok, but the behavior is weird. I did some factory resets. But nothing helped. Is there a way to get a "deep reset"....so that the reader is set back to the starting point as it is brand new (showing a scheme how to turn on the reader)?

Any other ideas?

Update....it appears only on my MacBook. Using a Windows Laptop is without issues.

I'll try to fix it by flashing the original image.

Did this perhaps start to happen after updating to MacOS 26? My Kobo Libra Colour is not connecting to my Mac as well, but works perfectly fine on a Windows laptop.

the 'turn it off and connect before you turn it on' trick doesn't work in my case.

No, it was the same with macOS Sequoia.
