kobo aura one display problems

Hello
I own a refurbished (no warranty) kobo aura one since less that one year. No problems since a couple of days ago: the display appears in this way

what is readable is in the small rectangle on the right.
I made both the factory resets, via menu and manual, but with no result.
Please suggestions?
Maybe changing the os and installing an open source OS, if exist, for kobo aura one?

Thanks in advance

Changing OS won't help.

Either
The display is damaged (not the usual appearance)
The ribbon cable is damaged or poorly connected
Display controller fault
RAM fault.

if I correctly understand maybe the only control I can make is if the ribbon cable is poorly connected.
Please what is the ribbon cable?

It's the cable connecting the display to the motherboard. You'd have to open the device to check.

The connector locking clip is easy to break on some ribbon cable assemblies. Some push back and some tilt.

Thankyou very much. I'll keep opening it as a last resort.
Before I want try another solution if possible: if the display is broken (probable, because if I correctly remember days ago is fallen down) anyway the great part of it works correctly (the area on the right who is about 10 cm x 15 cm).
It should be possible configure the OS to use that part of the display only (like is possible on some monitors), modifying Kobo eReader.conf or other configuration files? Or using alternatives OS?
Thanks in advance!

For reading, you can set wider margins. For other parts of the UI, it's not possible. You could try KOReader, but I don't think it can be done there either.

It could be a problem with the display controller.

Thankyou, I tried reducing the margins with the kobo reader and this is the result

Koreader should be more useful, because it can modify only the left and the bottom margins, having as result a bigger area readable and the bottom part of the page, that with Kobo reader is not visible. Kobo reader in fact must reduce both the side margins and can't reduce bottom and high margins, in this way the reading area is smaller that in a 6" ereader, btw it can be used instead of throw it in the garbage. I think I will try koreader even with this kobo (I just use it in android tablet and I find more complete that Kobo reader even in this case).

looking at the detail this is the result

some characters are very faded in the high and bottom part and some lines are very faded too: this can help to better understand the problem?

thanks in advance

sorry, I meant widen the margins, not reduce them.

Has it been like this since the first time you tried to use it after it fell down? If so obviously a broken substrate is the most likely answer.
