Cover pages handled as a special case in Kindle formats. In the Kindle publishing process the cover is added separately from the other content of the book.

In the comic example that we discussed previously the cover page image is a 470KB JPEG file with 1276x1920 resolution. All of the other page images in the book are separate PDF files, each containing a JPEG about 1MB in size with 1063x1599 resolution.

Actually all the ebook resellers and all the POD (paper prints) operators, I've ever seen, require separate cover and content uploads.

Fix incompatibility with calibre versions older than 8.6.0 introduced in version 2.26.0 of this plugin.

Allow conversion to EPUB to complete (with errors) if the KFX book being converted is missing its cover image.

Has something changed on Kindle, now getting kfx-zip files from Kindle for PC (2.4) and unable to dedrm the same books from a Kindle Keyboard (some files still work - everything seemed to work yesterday).

Anyone else having problems as of today (8/19) with books copied from a Kindle 50/50 not working with dedrm and the same books ending up in a KFX-ZIP format from Kindle for PC (2.4).

Seeing KFX-ZIP format may indicate a DRM removal failure but it can also have other causes. The first thing to do is to examine a log produced when a book is first imported verify the actual cause of the problem. That can be done using calibre's debug mode.

If it is actually DRM related and you cannot find the cause then I suggest posting an Issue at the site where you obtained the DRM removal software.

If it is something other than DRM then post here again for further analysis.

I will give it a try. But had not changed dedrm when this hit (I tried the alpha candidate after, with no change). I did update KFX, but believe it was after (as I didn't consider it until I hit the issue).

Calibre itself, though, was upgraded recently. Perhaps even after Monday evening (when everything worked).

I'm amazed that the epub 3 output of kfx supports converting "real" pages at all, but it seems quite buggy. Is this a known issue? i have a book where it is skipping some pages altogether and instead of saying x of 558 pages its saying x of "iv" pages. so for example 336 of iv instead of 336 of 558. anything i can do to improve this on my end? i used the tool's version of converting from the toolbar if that matters.

Kindle page numbers have some quirks. They usually are based on a print edition of the same book as listed on the sales page of the Kindle edition. Page numbers are not a count. They are labels that are not always in numeric sequence. There will be gaps if the corresponding print page has no content. Supplemental material at the beginning or end of a book will often use different labels such as roman numerals.

When a Kindle shows you are on "page # of #" the first is the label that preceded where you currently are in the book and the second is the last label that appears in the book, not the actual number of pages in the book. To change the second one you would need to edit the page number list in the book so that the last entry contains the actual number of pages instead of the label of the final page if that is what you want to see.

I am also getting errors. Kindle 11th gen, Calibre for Linux version 8.10. Importing through USB connection to device. Last successes on 9/16, first failure 9/21, no tries in-between. There was an update pushed to the kindle between those dates. Firmware version is 5.18.5, not sure what it was before.

It's been said in another thread that you may not be able to remove the DRM from eBooks published after September 13, 2025 with firmware 5.18.5.

The KFX Input plugin is not directly involved in DRM removal.

This discussion is more appropriate for the Dealing with Kindle ebooks in calibre thread.
