OOH! I love Harry Bosch! Michael Connelly is great. In fact, some of his collections are one of my few money purchases from the sony ebookstore!
Enjoy! ![]() |

I really enjoy good writers who produce series. When there is just one good book, I feel sort of bad as I get nearer to the ending. With a series, I know I'm going to have several really good books to read. I was fortunate to be able to read Clavel's Asian Trilogy in the proper order, and it made for two weeks of non-stop reading, each book better than the one before it! Then I read 'Shogun' and couldn't wait to move to Japan! (He's not here any more...)

I am very happy both of you are happy. I too would like to read these wonderful books. I had a look/search at the upload section and found nothing.
Who is the hero? who is the author? What's the title of the book(s)? Where to find them? Thanks for your help. ![]() This honorable site put "connoisseur" close to my name tag without my consent of course. Last edited by roger64; 05-10-2009 at 06:27 AM. |

The Black Echo The Black Ice The Concrete Blonde The Last Coyote Trunk Music Angel's Flight A Darkness More Than Night City of Bones Lost Light The Closers Chasing the Dime The Narrows For Clavell's Asian Trilogy Series, James Clavell is the author, titles are, in order; Taipan King Rat Noble House Rather than one single hero, there are two families plus assorted other folk who are followed from the founding of Hong Kong island to present day Hong Kong. Mixed in are some main characters from "King Rat," which takes place during W.W.II in Changi prison camp in Singapore who play an interesting role in Noble House. Taipan is not a great book, but it's interesting. Enough to have made a movie out of it. King Rat is a very good book, and they made a movie (with George Segal as the King) of this one too. 'Noble House' was a fantastic book (and fair movie with Pierce Brosnan) that I can re-read as often as I wish. The plots, sub-plots, twists and turns are as amazing as the character studies. One of those real 'page turners!' Just thinking about it makes me want to re-read it! ![]() But the true genius is "Shogun!" While not part of the Asian Trilogy, there is one character that shows up in "Noble House" with a name out of "Shogun's" story. I think "Shogun" rates as one of the very best pieces of historical fiction ever written, with accuracy that can be fully appreciated by someone living in Japan or knowledgeable of Japanese history, geography, legend, and culture. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Quote:

roger64, all the books hosted at mobileread are in the public domain (out of copyright) or under a creative commons licence (free to distribute). Michael Connelly's books (as well as most contemporary writers) are still in copyright, so not free to distribute. but you can find them at ebook stores such as fictionwise.com, booksonboard, whsmith, etc. take a look in our wiki for more ebook stores and sources for free books (feedbooks.com is another excellent source for more free pd / cc books).
stichawl, thanks for the confirmation ! i've had my eye on this series for quite some time but if i recall the last time i checked the series was only available in ebooks starting with number 8 out of 12 (or something similar). i'll have to look again and see if i can find the first one now. i'm looking forward to discovering it for myself ! i love good mysteries. ![]() |

The latest Harry Bosch is 'Brass Verdict' and it is, arguably, one of his best. Very intricate and well woven plot.
I started with 'The Concrete Blond' and have since read ever one. I once attended a book signing Connelly spoke at and was interested to hear how he got into the writing business. He's been intrigued by the mystery writers of the 30's and 40's and just had to have a go at it. Also, if you like the Bosch series, you might try the John Sandford 'Prey' series. Ditto Robert Crais. |

Meanwhile, I somehow missed the Stuart Woods books and am now cheerfully reading my way through that series.
Also, one of the better 'film noir' style detective novels I've read was 'Night Train' by Martin Amis. Untypical of Amis, his protagonist is a female cop in Chicago. |

Thanks to all for your illuminating and comprehensive replies. It was a misunderstanding of mine but, trust me, I am aware that it is possible to find books even out of MobileRead supply, and I've heard that some people are willing to give money to get some of them.
So, I'll buy one of them to try. ![]() I've read "Shogun" (see above for references ![]() |

Also--another recommendation for anyone who likes Micheal Connelly, try John Lescroart and his Dismas Hardy series. Very enjoyable. A great website for mystery series lovers is www.stopyourekillingme.com. It lists all the books in various series by tons of authors. When I find a new author I like, I go to that site and find out what order I should be reading books in. dordale ![]() |
