New Kindle protection ?
Has something changed with Amazon DRM recently ?
I bougth four books for my mother and two of them are apparently a no-go to DeDRM.

To be precise she uses an old kindle with page turn buttons and her kindle version is on 4.1.4
My DeDRM is on 10.0.9 and the KFX plugin is on 2.26.2

Now I couldn't download any of them with the old Kindle for PC trick, but until now I could transfer the books from her Kindle to calibre, and at worst I used From KFX to handle the conversion.

But those two books apparently don't have KFX, they transfer to her calibre, but all I get is an AZW with DRM.

Version 4.1.4 is only Kindle gen4 & 5 excluding the PW1
The Kindle gen3 to gen5 inclusive, inc. PW1 never get KFX. They mostly get azw3/KF8.

If the ebook is really old it may be mobi/KF7 and can named .mobi or .azw on the Kindle (without the 3). Whichever it is, copy to PC and rename to the other option and it will add to Calibre OK. Ironically this sometimes happens with DRM free titles.

Did you enter the serial number of her Kindle in the deDRM plugin settings?

Checked the date and it's the inverse, one of the book was published in early august and the other early june. And renaming the azw to mobi did nothing.

About the serial number, I have used DeDRM for years, so that's not it.

Do not use KindleforPC as it won't work wirth newly published eBooks. Use your Mom's Kindle to download and then from the Kindle into calibre.

I'm astounded. Do we ever had a case of serial number being changed or deleted from the plug in ?

Again, I DeDRM'ed my amazon purchases for years, the serial number was obviously added and everything worked.

Fast forward to today I checked and the serial was missing.

It sounds to me like you always did the drm removal using files downloaded either from the web site or using Kindle for PC. Neither of those sources required a Kindle serial number.
