Proper typesetting can be worth a few bucks.

Don't overestimate the amount of effort that goes into these public domain repackagings, when we know some publishers don't even care about their commercial offerings. (I never could get Rosetta Ebooks or Open Road Media to fix some of the errors in their books.)

I actually picked up the deal myself. Unfortunately, opening up in Calibre eReader I see that it the text runs off the right edge of the window. Oh dear.

Which book(s) were those? I picked up some through Kobo Plus and noticed that at least one was a fixed layout which calibre's ebook-viewer is not happy with. Does it run off the right edge on a Kobo ereader?

The three I picked [1] [2] [3]. Only opened one on Kobo, looks fine. Lots of Kobo spans and stuff in HTML.

All three of those books cut off part of the text on the right margin using calibre's ebook-viewer. Looking at the stylesheet in each of them, I removed the html selector as copied below. After that, calibre's ebook-viewer did not cut off on the right margin. From the view of how the book displays, the Kobo spans have no effect since they are only used by the Kobo renderer for text select positioning.
